    I leave them on the whole time Im listening to em, then i turn em off.

    It messes with my spidey sense if i leave something powered up and not in use.

    Used to leave mine on until a sudden thunderstorm took out my beloved Carver TFM-45 a few years ago. Now it's all unplugged until it's listening time.

    Mine pulls about 500-600 watts at idle. I turn it off if not using it. (and yes, I also turn off a 60 watt light when I leave the room - so I'm cheap)

    They were great on Thanksgiving, if I ran out of burners on the stove I would just fire up the pair and have extra cooking space for the world famous Venom's Yam Magnifique; Delish. :D

    The manual claims 140watts at idle. No amp pulls 5-600 at idle unless true Class A.


    I leave mine on so that when we lose electricity in an ice storm, the power company feels a huge financial hurt when I'm off the grid and they rush right over to get me back online first...............it pays to consume.;)

    When I spoke with the service department for my amplifier, I asked them and was told 500-600watts at idle.

    Looking at Cinepro.com for the latest version of my amp (the Mk. 4 - more powerful than my Mk. 1 so not an apples to apples comparison) it lists the Power Consumption as 5,550 watts under test conditions and 2,700 watts under Nominal Conditions. (no idea what that means)

    I do not have a manual for my amp so I do not know for sure what it is supposed to draw. Is there a way I could go about measuring it with a volt-meter? If so, how would I go about it?

    I have a voltmeter, is it as easy as sticking it in the plug and see what it draws?

    Current clamp and then measure/calculate.

    Some Multi-Meter's have a 0-10 amp scale that can be measured directly
    through the leads. You have to plug the leads into that scale on the meter to use it correctly.. What brand and model of meter do you have.

    You can use a voltmeter, but you'll have to cut a wire. That's not the answer you were looking for, so that leaves a clamp-on AC ammeter.

    Ammeter is not a typo, so lay off me.

    And it wouldn't have blown if it was turned off. Yes it is slightly more likely to blow if turned on, but a lightning strike near by is likely to blow it if turned off;)
