Anyone leave their amps on all the time

I have an Adcom gfa 545 and a 555. I don't want to power them both through the one switched outlet on my Onkyo 805. And of course I'm to lazy to walk to the system every time to switch on 2 amps. Any ideas.

I leave all my rig on all the time (unless there's thunderstorms...just in case).

my two Marantz Ma700s are on all the time. The outlaw mono has that detection sensor. or what ever they call it.

Use of a power conditioner with one device attached on delay would work, but switching both of those amps at once will create a heck of a current draw. I have to power my setup in a certain order: 7 channel amp on, then activate the receiver via a Belkin PF 60, which has a delay to the 2 channel amp. Watching the current numbers of the PF 60, this kept the draw down the best at system start up.

I see no reason you could not leave them on all the time, but make sure you have some measure of high quality surge protection. Most commercial power is very inconsistent and flexes high and low voltage spikes, and drops. Are you using a 15 amp or twenty amp breaker. If you were using a 20 amp circuit, clearly you would have more latitude.

Nope,shut mine off.Who knows what goes on when I'm not home.Dogs might run behind there and yank out an I/C and short out the amp or something else.

Same here. Who knows what could happen (lightning strike, short, blown amp, etc.) when the amp is powered on when nobody is around?

My SS amps or designed to be always left on. The tube pre is turned off.

Mine are always off when not in use. They may not draw much current, but I still turn them off.

If they stay cool and don't draw much yes. Anything class D I leave on, all my A or A/B amps are off.

yes, all on all the time. My home is too busy to keep turning off and on. Now if I leave for vac, I turn everything off. But normally I leave everything on.

Everything stay nice and cozey and warm. Becides saving the life of the power switched.

Class D on, my Outlaws stay on, but they go into a standby mode without active signal.

I leave the entire rig on 24/7. Thunderstorms are an exception, in which case I unplug and set the plug far away from the outlet.

Mine is in standby mode. When I had my Parasound, I left it on all the time except for thunderstorms.

My Sunfire has auto-detect so powers on when a signal is sent. I leave my HK amp on all the time but it's only 100WPC.

I leave both of my amps on all the time. I'm not sure how much power it uses, but I believe it's probably minimal.

You can use a 110 volt AC relay on the switched outlet to increase its power handling. The relay is worht about $ 10 and might require a $ 5 socket to wire without soldering.

I'll leave my equipment on if I go grocery shopping. Once my day is over, I shut everthing down.

I always turn everything off (Unless it has a standby feature like my TV and PS3). We get frequent storms over here so I wouldn't want something to happen while I'm gone.

On All the time. If you shut them off, and get a good lightning strike it will hit your gound, and nutral which are not on the switch;)

There are 3 prongs on a standard wall jack. One is hot, one is neutral, and one is ground. Only the hot is normally disconnected from nearly any appliance. The neutral is basically a ground, or return. The only safe thing to do during bad weather is unplug your equipment.

You can't power either of them off the switched outlet, they draw too much current. The outlet is rated 1A max.

Please consider using a relay. You'll need electrical experience on the level of wiring a switch and outlet.

Thank you William, that was my first thought when I read the original post. Hopefully he has not plugged them into the back of the AVR.

My amp has a 12v trigger from the AVR to turn it on. I don't want to leave it on all the time.

Turn mine off at the end of the night. Krell recommends to "NOT" leave them on 24/7. I'll take their word for it.
