I am not sure, if this is the right forum to put out this question.
If this needs to be posted in a different forum. let me know which one.
Can anybody advise me if I should get the rotel 1098 or the Pioneer VSX-94TXH?

I heard that Rotel is sonically better than Pioneer?

Thanks

I am seeking an advice in the sound quality between a Rotel 1098 with 1075 power amp and the Pioneer VSX94TXH elite.
    I presently have a LSi9 and RTiA1

Ok there are a few things to consider here.

    1) For straight 2 channel the Rotel will sound better. It's a deadicated preamp and is a card frame design. They are now able to remove the S video section and add HDMI but here is the kicker, there is no audio or any processing with it. So in my opnion that sucks ****.

    2) For regular DVD the Rotel is better. It's audio quality is a cleaner version then the 94.

    3) For Blu Ray and HD DVD the 94 is superior as it can process all current audio formats. It's a killer preamp for this job. I have personally tried it and it works very well.

    4) Ipod control the 94 has it the Rotel does not.

    5) Xm radio and Sirus 94 wins

6)Auto Calibration or Mcacc 94 wins Rotel has none.

Basically if you want todays standards for theater and 2 channel isn't first then the Pioneer wins hands down. If 2 channel is your main thing and the ability to do theater 2nd then the Rotel is a better choice.

I currently own the Rotel rsp1068 which is superior with cd / SACD / DVD / and DVD AUDIO playback but it lacks HDMI. You can still use the 6 channel in for the new audio formats but if your SACD or DVD AUDIO player already needs this then a mess you have.

Actually I'm looking to move my rsp1068 and most likely will pick up the Pioneer Elite 94. I'm not so needing 2 channel audiophile performance anymore out of this system and going more deadicated theater use with multichannel audio. I own Dynaudio speakers and I'm considering making a 2 channel out of my 82's with a preamp and 2 channel amp for 2 channel listening.

So if you think about what you want to do, this will help you. I think Rotel preamps are excellent but the Pioneer is current. I also like Pioneer ELite over all other Japanese receivers to use a preamp. Not not a fan of that first but with todays market there is nothing else except the Integra DTC9.8 which I also own a Integra 5.3 and have Installed Integra in the past. I don't like them at all. I only have a Integra for a gym/ garage rig. So the DTC 9. 8 is off my list of what to get for my new preamp.

    Hello Mantis,
Thanks for the advice. this is also what I have read in my internet searches. It looks like I'll be leaning towards the elite.
    Thanks again,
