Testing drivers... an ebay Seller Q&A

Looking at a couple separate drivers on ebay. Here's Q&A with Seller:

Could you please confirm the condition of the voice coil and cone assembly. Have you applied a music signal to each one to verify that all is working as it should?

tested with a c battery. responded as it should as far as i can tell.
Seems reasonable for checking that the cone travels freely in both directions (if check with both polarities), but not a test I would have thought of.
Is this a legitimate, if not exhaustive, test?

    It tells you if it is COMPLETELY blown or not, but I wonder if it would tell if it was partialy damaged?

    Russ has said to use the battery to check polarity only
