2 of my friends went and stood in line only to see people getting 2 or 3 A2 HD DVD's. They were 2 people behind the person who got the last 1.

I picked one up this morning.

Does anyone know if these are up to date with the firmware or do I need to update the player?

    Thanks,

The North Dallas store on Montfort is out of them. They did say they had some, which is surprising as they typically don't carry this model.

Wanted to go, but I'm leaving at noon for a road trip and had to get my oil changed this morning instead of getting a third HD-DVD player :(

I got mine this morning. Got in line around 7:20, was 10th or so. Three people got laptops and the rest were there for the HD DVD player. By the time 8 rolled around, there were around 30 people there. All the players were gone within a couple minutes. They were limiting it to 2 per person, which several did. I just got one though, which I'm going to give as a Xmas gift. They also only had four of the $14.87 movies.

I got to my Walmart right before 8 but it wouldn’t have mattered. They had 10 and sold 2 to the first 5 people. What resulted was the rest of the people in line literally freaking out at the WM people, screaming at them and demanding things.... Especially the guy next to me who smelled like meth.

Oh well, I'll wait till after Xmas when I can get a 1080p model for $100 :)

i thought the a2 and the xa2 were the only ones left with analog out...

Buy it anyway, rather needed or not. 98 bucks is a very good time to get off the fence. Eventually you'll get a new tv.

That's correct. Technically, the A2 does have analog outs, but only two channel.

not to change the subject of this thread but someone correct if i have read wrong. in order to listen in Dolby True HD or DD+ and DTS-HD, you have to either have a receiver that will decode it OR a DVD player that will decode correct? just want to make sure i can acheive this since i have a denon 3802 and would love to have DD true hd

You won't be able to get Dolby true HD or DTS-HD with this player and your avr but it will downconvert the DD+ and allow it to be played through the Denon using the optical connection. Theoretically this should still offer better sound since it will run at a bitrate of 640 kbps while DD typically runs around 400-450 kbps on a standard dvd.

There were about 30 in stock, but we have a minimum markup law here, so the price was $185.00. What an effin' joke, and I realize WI was in the fine print on their flyer, but I didn't think the price difference would be nearly $100.....

If anyone in less of a tax hell has one they'd like to unload send me a PM. :)

I googled minimum markup law.....in the immortal words of Raymonds tv dad Peter Boyle...Holy Crap.....that is horrible. They dont even bother to kiss you before giving you the bone.

Can I get 5.1 from HDMI to television and optical to avr? Or would I have to use the RCA's to television?

Uh, sure. At the very least it will have the same basic hook ups as any other DVD player.

Demiurge, what's this minimum markup law? I've never heard of anything like that. What's the thinking behind it and how does that effect Internet purchases like EBay? Just curious.

I just merged 3 other threads into this one. There isn't a logical reason to have 4 Toshiba HD-DVD threads active.

If you want one, get one, buy 6 and post it here.

I went on over and what do you know they had over 12 left 12 HA so I went to the bank withdrawed the money and now I am a proud owner of a toshiba HD DVD PLAYER.
