what if some Wal Marts aren't participating in this? and there are no $98 HD DVD players?

Probably cries of discrimination, screaming, blaming, threats of lawsuits. You know, the typical public pandemonium during Christmas shopping season.

    Polksters,

Walmart in Union, NJ had 30 in stock. One per customer and you had to put your name on a list. It had no TV's and 5 computers, people were not happy. A walmart down RT.22 in Watchung had TV's but no HD-DVD. So it seems it's hit or miss.

Wally World today for $100 bucks. Anybody getting one? I am on the fence. Don't need it, don't even have HD tv yet, but might get one over the next few months.

I went in to get baby formula. They already had a line for the sale items, no thanks, not worth the time. I'll still check out the Walmart next to work.

At my store I got there at 7:45 and waited in line. They brought out 12 A2's and sold 4 to the first guy in line. The line crashed the register since the clerk was helping whoever walked up. Typical WM cluster but no player for me.

Man, sometimes I hate my state.

There were about 30 in stock, but we have a minimum markup law here, so the price was $185.00. What an effin' joke, and I realize WI was in the fine print on their flyer, but I didn't think the price difference would be nearly $100.....

If anyone in less of a tax hell has one they'd like to unload send me a PM. :)

No luck for me either, not that I needed one. So much for the "niche" market since there where 60 year old ladies with a disappointed look on their face when no HD-DVD player for them... :)

I picked up a laptop though, either for my parents or for my wifes relatives in Mexico. I'm sure I can get $100 HD-DVD player after Xmas.

Got to our local Walmart at 7:45, they were already selling them, no lines, no crowd at all. There were 7 left and I grabbed one. I went to look at HDMI cables to see if they had any cheap ones (they didn't), and decided to grab another one (no limit here). This was about 3 minutes later and the rest were already gone! Usually I am never lucky enough to get in on these deals, so I guess I timed it just right. I saw a guy at the checkout with 5 in his cart.

I also wanted the cheap laptop, but they didn't have any of those at all.

I just got home a little bit ago. The Wal Mart in Denton, TX had about 15 HD-A2's and when I got to get mine, there were 4 left with about 15 people behind me. I also picked up one of the $998 Sanyo 50" plasma's. Why not...hell, that's cheap and I've been wanting to redo the living room anyway. I'm selling my 3.5 year old 56" Panasonic RPTV to my ex so she gets a good deal and I get a new TV.

I also picked up "The Big Lebowski" for the $15 price and while I was at it, got the new Eagles CD and listening to that now. Maybe tonight I can get around to tinkering with the plasma and HD player.

The line for the $348 laptop was longer than anything. That's a helluva deal for the price. If I didn't already have 4 PC's in the house, I'd almost get another. I thought about buying one for a friend for Christmas but decided not to. They had maybe 40 to 50 of the laptops and I'm sure they will be gone in the next little while.

Sent my wife over first thing this morning, she was 8th in line and they had 15 :D. Guess I'll have to switch back to netflix for rentals. I just wish it had analog outs , but for $100 I'll get over it

I got one and the lady even asked if one is all I wanted. If it was one of those 512MB/Vista laptops I wouldn't have bothered but 1GB/Vista is good enough for low end use.

Want me to check if they have any left? It sounded like they had plenty in both the locations I went. HD-DVD's they said were the first ones to sell out, they said those were gone the minute the sale started.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't really need one. It was just too good to pass up. I am sure they will have similar offers before Christmas.

I just picked up one hd dvd player at my walmart (Rockwall, TX). When I got there around 7:50 there were probably 20 people in line. I did some other shopping for about 15 minutes then stood in the line of only 2 or 3 at that point. I picked up the second to last player. Most people were getting the laptops, and there were several still available. I did see one person checking out with two players, so I'm not sure if there was a limit or not.

I will look and see if there are any where I am at, if so I will grab one for ya. There is no local sales or state taxes here.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D
