Anyone tried these for HT mains? I know,I'm sure they would be great, but just curious if anyone has these in their HT set-up...

I currently have RTi12's as mains and was just thinkin' about something different...

Thanks

I've used 3.1TL's in a HT and they work out great as mains!

They are one of the better because when you unplug the SDA cable, your only losing 1 mid woofer. Ht requires more static stereo effects. I am trying to come up with something to remotely connect and discount via remote. Right now I just connect and disconnect per HT and music. Hey, I own a TT don't I. LOL

Cool, that's what I want to hear...my thoughts exactly on the SDA i/c...only losing 1 mid-driver compared to other model SDA's

    Fair price for a decent pair??? I know I could do a search,but I'm too eff'ing lazy.

I wouldn't even bother unpluging the SDA cable.

I kept the SDA cable plugged in. Works great that way - even helping further to separate the left and right channels. Personally, I think SDA is a major PLUS for HT applications.

If they are as good as they look, yes, that's a fair price. Another plus is that the 3.1's have only one tweeter each; cheap upgrade :)

the a'gon bb avg is 800.00 FWIW,,,I think that the price is fair,,, but if you're going to p/u,,after the gasoline factor kicks in,,I dunno,,unless you know someone in the "shipping" business.;) They do look to be in good condition.

    a pair on a'gon for 810.00,,virginia though

I contacted the seller about these. I asked a series of very specific questions about the cosmetic and functional condition of the speakers. This is the response I received:

"You can see the pictures, what you see are what you get. The speakers are good cosmetic and working condition. All the drivers and tweeters work, they are sounded very good clear and deep bass, power up to 500W. There is interconnect cable come with. Some missing foam inserts/packing material in the boxes but don't worry I will put some soft material to wrap around the speakers if you want to buy them. Let me know if you have any questions."

Hmmmm. The seller ends by asking me to let him know if I have any questions, but he does not address my specific questions about:

    1. Defects and blemishes in the woodwork.
    2. The exact size of the shipping boxes in order to get a shipping quote. (I already know the shipping weight from Polk brochures)
    3. The condition of the rubber surrounds.
    4. The condition of the driver cones and passive radiator.
    5. Prior ownership history.
    6. Prior repair and modification history.

These may be ok and they certainly look good from the pics. Based on the seller's response, I would only feel comfortable buying these if I could see them in person.

I also asked about original packing for the cartons and other questions about "history"...pretty much got the same response you did.

    I'm steering clear for sure...

i started with the rti12's front and rear with my setup, which is ht and multi sacd, and lots of 2 channel. i then put 3.1's up front, and was very impressed. much wider soundfield, not like hearing from a single point source. since, i have moved the 3.1's to the rear channels, and put 2.3tl's in the front. this further moved the soundfield out further, and for multi sacd it it just incredible! i no longer have sounds(ht or sacd)coming from a single point source any more, but from a much larger 360 degree environment of sound all the way around. the new tweets on the 2.3's are a must, but the tl 3000's on the 3.1's seem to work well. all that is left for me is to upgrade caps, resistors, etc. make sure you have good power all the way around, it makes all the difference in the world. also, as far as i am concerned, leave the interconnect cord plugged in, as i feel this greatly improves the width of the soundfield. i payed 1k$ for my 3.1tl's, delivery included, but they are mint and came out of a 5 year storage from original owner. good luck!

I also have a pair of 2.3TL's I am thinking of setting up and trying as mains...I'd just like to leave them where they are at...in the dedicated 2-channel rig.

The back wall of our HT is just not wide enough to get the 2.3's setup as they should be...too close to the corners...much less than 3 feet.

    A pair of 3.1TL's would be a little better fit...not by much,but a little.

Hey Mike, I have the black 3.1TL's . They are the perfect SDA to me. They are one of the few SDA's that can pass the dreaded WAF. Great sound and look great.

I sold mine for a grand 2 months ago, but they were in prestine condition. I replaced them with LSI15's and although the 3.1's were nice, I'm not missing them too much.

    Bdaley,

Which do you prefer... LSI15's or Polk 3.1TL's? That would be a tough call for me to make.
