I got my ears on some of those at Troy's and this is a great buy for someone local. I wish they were closer to me.

Somebody in Cali needs to jump on these and get your acoustic suspension on!!!

    Good Luck with your sale.

Steve, you need to get these. Damnit, I wish I could get those.

You heard the AR9's, bubba. These are the AR90's, which are derived from that design. These are a little smaller. The differences between the two can be found HERE.

I haven't ever heard any AR90's, but I don't think they are any slouch by any means.

These are in beautiful shape. Somebody PLEASE get these, you won't be disappointed.

My bad, the 9s have 12's side firing and the 90s have 10s. Still, I'd like to have them.

Here's some more info for those interested:

Considered by AR lovers to be on the short list of AR greats with such legends as the AR3a and AR9, these AR90's sound fantastic and look almost as they did 25-years ago, mostly due to their longtime position in a shady living room. The walnut cabinets positively glow and have only one minor blemish that I've been able to detect.

When I acquired these speakers in January their surrounds were disintegrating so I had the six low-end drivers professionally re-edged by www.nealspeakerrepair.com. I also completely re-capped the crossovers so these speakers should be ready for another 25-years of service! The acoustic blankets are intact and in great shape. The toggle switches on the crossovers work as they should. The grills are perfect without a hole, snag, or stain that I can see. The grill frames have all their pins intact and holding firmly. The cabinets' corners are sharp and as I mentioned above, there's only one minor blemish that I see, visible on the side panel of one of the speakers in the links below.

Originally sold for $1400/pair in 1982, these wonderfully engineered speakers will embarrass most modern speakers costing many times this price, particularly the bass-heavy HT speakers that are so abundant these days. If you're looking for an audiophile-grade full-range speaker with true bottom octave coverage and smooth and precise mids and highs you owe yourself a listen to this pair!

    Manual: http://www.n8software.com/ar90_manual/

Note: AR90's are 4-ohm speakers that only sound their best when paired with a substantial amplifier capable of driving such a load. Garden-variety 100W receivers will not do these speakers justice and run the risk of damaging the drivers, the receiver, or both at high volumes (due to clipping).
System: PS Audio HCA-2, PCA-2 + HCPS, Acoustat Model 2+2.

+10 on the AR's. Troys 9's were awesome, especially after they were mysteriously repositioned....Dire Straits (on vinyl) never sounded so good. That officially put AR's on my own again list.

I used to own some AR towers back in day and they are some tight speakers indeed. I was always impressed with the low end, and mine had either 8's or 10's. Nice speakers!

These were one step down in the AR line from the -9, and suffered low sales just as the magnificent sounding AR-5 did in the shadow of the -3a.

These should be a serious consideration for anybody in the bay area with the money.
