    well guys that was a very interesting cono so there really is no difference between a pre amp and a power amp is that right?

    Wrong. A pre-amp is not amplified, does device switching, volume and level control, and sometimes a radio tuner.

    An amp is just for power pretty much.

    Alex,

    simply, the preamp is a selector/volume switch. It lets you switch sources (cd, tape yada yada) and lets you adjust the volume. The power amp takes the signal and amplifies it and passes it to the speakers. Two very different things going on there. A receiver does this all in one box (plus a tuner) instead of separate boxes.

    Man, you kinda gotta feel bad for Russ sometimes though. Russ can't even ride the shortbus because his big helmet covered cranium can't get through the door so he has to walk all the time. Heartless mofos are driving by throwing half full slurpees and Slush Puppies at his helmet and ****. Brandy says she got to hose him down before he can come back in the house

    i know i must sound like i have no knowledge in sound/audio equiment but in the 2 years i've been into sound stuff about 8 months of it was home audio and then i swiched over to pro audio so home audio is not my forte but i do have a nack for polk audio i have a CS175i a pair of M10B's which have all brand new parts in them and a pair of cherry finished 11r's other home sterio stuff includes a pair of 2600 series JBL's a yamaha reciever rx-v396 and a sony dvp-s360 i also rebuild speakers. if anyone is interested in any of my equipment i will sell everything but the 11r they r my favorite so tell me if anyone is interested i am only interested in sda's and pro audio eqipment
