Finally grabbed a pair as well. I meant to a couple months ago and sorta forgot about them.

The black grilles are original (and still a bit dusty in the pic). I sourced a second set of grilles from eBay. Pretty cheap. Burnt-orange color grille fabric comes from a company called Huntley Audio. Upholstery came out pretty good.

The walnut veneer + burnt orange combination is just too handsome. Looks pretty good on the Polks too IMHO B)

Really like the upgraded look too. Kudos.

    Thank you very much.
Like I said, the orange and walnut pulls it off for this model. I'm not sure that other colors would have passed. Or how it would look on other SDA models for that matter.

I can also report after some time listening: they sound very good. I will forever long for not...
I don't feel like I'm missing much presently.
I might dial in a subwoofer next. Not that it entirely needs it though. And some room treatment could be nice.

Great job here. What are the exact length of the dowels?

I can not find that I logged the exact length. I started by cutting dowels to an approximate length using the table saw. I then used trial and error to arrive at the exact length with adjustments to the table saw. They were tight and it was a bit of a maneuver to get them into place.

From tapping my knuckles around each of the front speaker baffles, I can detect a noticable improvement of 'innertness' that is consistent (or consonant) across each speaker and from speaker to speaker. Or at least to my satisfaction.

Bracing is a must on these old codgers. What's next on the to-do list?

Didn’t think I’d like the pumpkin cloth on the Polk’s but damn, it works.
    Looks good.

I had a pair of Legacy-Audio Focus that were custom ordered in a white wash oak finish. They came with white grill cloths, probably to appease the whiff.

    Too much either for me.
Sent the grills off to Legacy-Audio and had them redo them with black cloth.
That worked damn nice with the contrasting white wash.

I've had black cloth, white finish speakers and it is sharp looking

Not a fan of white cloth
