I'm so glad my days of working on highways are behind me. Most of the time all we had for protection was a cone; if we were lucky barrels and the best was behind jersey barriers. But I've seen John Q somehow manage to climb a Jersey barrier, hit an aluminum light pole, bring it down across 3 lanes of heavy traffic on rte 95 south in New Haven, come down off the barrier and still keep going. Now that series of events took skill as those barriers are designed to not let a vehicle climb them.

What the heII is wrong with people? So we now need a rule that says you can’t chit yourself and continue competing? This is the world we live in….

I saw that earlier. The race was in China, so my first thought was she ate the local food! My second thought was if this happened in San Francisco, no one would've noticed!

(if this would be a real thing...)
Not really sure this is a problem, actually.
    1) As long as there are more than 500 Olympians competing, things'll work themselves out.
    2) We can probably expect to see some record times for these events.

My daughter is a rower. I'll have to ask her if she thinks she will be ready for the 2032 games...

It's okay though, I'll just have her watch a bunch of Steve Irwin's reruns before the event. It's all about being prepared.

I was lucky and didn't get burned at all. :)

Same here but not lucky. My first time driving outside my hometown. Third degree across my upper back and neck. Could've been worse if face and eyes. Fortunately, mostly due to tennis, my reflexes were good.

I cannot recommend standing in front of buzzards.
When we're working out in the yard and buzzards* are circling, we typically look up, and say, in Monty Python-esque voices:
    We're not dead yet!
    _______________
    * OK, they're turkey vultures, which are not, technically buzzards, but it's not uncommon to hear them thus referred to. :p

I was downtown Atlanta on Tuesday, and saw a Waymo for the first time - in a heard of three.
Didn't know what I was seeing at first. I don't doubt at all their contact with "dealers".

    I'm not riding in one.
