Apologies - I thought we were discussing phones in the United States, where Apple outsells all other phone makers combined…. Further, Apple leads in Japan, The UK, Australia and Canada. Android’s global numbers are (artificially) propped up by India and China, with both countries imposing numerous barriers to “foreign technology” (ie Apple).

You can cherry-pick the stats any which way, but still, the majority of "former Android users" think Android provides a better experience. Also, why would you think this is a "phones in the US" discussion. It's a world-wide market. Don't be myopic.

Oh gee, I don’t know - maybe because the title of the thread is literally “IPhone 17 Pro Max”, and the VAST majority (if not all) of us reside in the United States?

And speaking of “cherry picking” stats, sure, the (slim) majority of former Android users think Android provides a better experience, almost half DON’T - that’s pretty telling…

It's only telling in the fact that it's a close split, not a dominance, which is what you stated. That's fine. Enjoy your narrow view.

Apple seems to artificially make their older phones have shorter battery lives. This has been documented by some of the tech people. Battery life is always fantastic...until they release the next generation. I bought my son a 15 Plus last summer. Brand new. When the 15 came out, it had stellar reviews for battery life. My son complains the battery is worse than his 13 Plus. Why? Because Apple deprecated the battery because it is now 3 generations old (with the 18 release) even though its 1.5 years of use. My Galaxy S24+ is now 2.5 years old and I rarely see the battery under 50% in a day's use.
I have read about that as well just haven't experienced it myself. My last phone the iPhone 15 Pro max, the battery lasted like a day and 1/2 at least. It was just as fast as the day I got it and I only did this upgrade due to the insane price I got for my Pro max which was $1100.00. hard to say no to that.

I doubt there’s truth to that particular conspiracy theory. My wife still uses her 12 with no issues, as does my daughter. There is no denying that new batteries last longer, but this is universal. People who game extensively or live on social media clearly deplete the max battery life more quickly. I have a 17, and it possesses many new features to preserve battery life - kind of an odd thing to do if you’re trying to artificially age-out batteries.

By the same token, my brother-in-law is a diehard Samsung guy, and he experiences very rapid (<2year) battery degradation… it just depends on how you use (and charge) your devices…

I think there could be some solid truth to that. For me I didn't charge my phone on a ny regular basis. When it got low , I plugged it in and not much later it was full charge. I think people who are power users and charge more than once a day might experience these lack of battery power.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo all probably sell more computers each year by themselves.
BTW, I'm not an Apple hater. I have two AppleTV 4K boxes and my main computer is a Mac Mini. I tried an iPhone back around 2021 and after less than 6 months, I switched back to Android. I don't care if my messages are green.

OH NO , your one of those Green messages, Oh boy!! LOL.

I think it's great we all have options. My Son jumped between iPhone then Driod and then came back to iPhone. His reasons are his own. I got an iPhone when they first came out , got a new one almost every single year since. I only skipped 1 or 2 models and then I sweat and want the NEW ONE. My hang up I guess.

I am the polar opposite Dan - I started with the 4s, which is still my favorite for overall size. I also liked the fact that I could replace the battery in it by myself (which I did several times). I dropped it more times than I can count (once off the top of a 12’ ladder to the concrete floor), accidentally sent it into the washing machine (my wife saw the screen through the glass of the door after about 5 mins and pulled it out - did the rice trick and it ran another 2 years). Eventually it became too much of a dinosaur, and I went to the 12 mini. This one lived a troubled life too, going into the bar sink at the Star restaurant in Elko NV, falling into a bucket of drywall mud, and taking a quick trip into the north fork of the Flathead river in my pocket (I was too busy saving my camera to worry about my phone). The 12 mini died last year when I dropped it while working in Tucson - it just wouldn’t charge, so I upgraded to the 16 plus.

When my 12 died, I could luckily replicate most functions on my iPad, but it was a moment that made me realize just how interwoven these devices have become in our lives. Here I was 900 miles from home, and my phone holds all my contacts, my airplane boarding pass, my rental car reservation, my expense account reporting, my alarm clock, gps, and on and on.

I hate changing phones - if Apple had continued updating the 4s, I’d probably still be using it (and changing batteries!). I had a coworker several years ago that maintained two (2) phones, their contracts 12 months offset, so that he could upgrade every year with whichever phone was at the 2 year mark…

I hear yeah on not wanting to keep upgrading. Each upgrade is so small sometimes. I stopped getting a new one every year and started hopping models as the current model I was using like the 11 or 15 Pro max's where so small of an upgrade. Hell my new 17 pro max was a pretty small upgrade over the 15 , The battery does last a lot longer and I really like that.

I was told not to charge my 17 over 80% ,I set it to 80% max ,It automatically charges to 100% once a week-fortnight.
My old 13 was charged to 100% everyday from new and only holds 82% now ,this is where the batteries apparently likes it.

Well it is almost 8000mAh, afaik the largest used in a phone.

Closer to 5000 actually, but it is still one of the biggest. The 18 Pro Max bumped up an another 500 or so.

Okay, Well, my last 3 Motorola tracfones had a 5000mAh battery. I was watching a video yesterday talking about the new iphone with a battery over 7600mAh battery. I wrongly assumed they were larger than 5000mAh.
    carry on.

There are some other brands like OnePlus that put 7000mAh batteries in their phones. There are even some extreme "rugged phones" meant for off grid use that have 30,000+mAh batteries. Most mainstream brands keep the battery around 5000, which is equivalent to 20Wh per cell, which is the limit for international air shipping.
Apple actually exceeds that and has to use a firmware trick to lower the capacity prior to initial setup. Article here explains some of that: https://www.techradar.com/phones/iphone/the-iphone-18-pro-max-has-a-clever-feature-to-avoid-problems-with-its-larger-battery-that-might-become-the-new-normal-heres-what-you-need-to-know

Is that what you're calling the corn apps now...??

I’m not sure what “corn apps” are, but if they suck the life outta your phone battery in nothing flat, then yes!

    Hello everyone,
My Daughters phone was pretty old and she said it was basically becoming useless how slow it works. So we went to the ATT store and see about getting a new one. She had a iPhone 11 128g which has severed her very well. But the new iPhone 17 was there in White so that is what I got her. The funny thing is they gave us $350 for the iPhone 11 trade in. It was in perfect shape as she always had a case and screen protector on it. Pretty nice score for that kind of money off.

She is tickled pink how fast the new phone is, the volume is a huge difference and the cameras are light years ahead of what was going on in the iPhone 11. Win win.

So as I was there, the salesman said I could get stupid money for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I told him my phone works perfectly, it's still fast as the day I got it, the battery lasts at least a full day or more and I have plenty of storage not to mention my phone as well has been in cases and screen protectors. But he hit me with $1100 and the new iPhone 17 Pro Max was like $1199. So for $100 bucks, I could upgrade into a brand new phone and away I go. I didn't think that would be a smart move not to take them up on that offer. So I did.

So for my upgrade, not as big of a deal. My new 17 doesn't honestly feel any faster than the 15 did. Everything loaded fast on the 15 as it does on the 17 so with the increase in speed, it's barely noticeable. I haven't done anything that showed me so.

I haven't taken any video or pictures yet, it has this camera button on the side but there is a camera button right on the Home Screen so unless I put another shortcut there , I don't see the camera button a benefit.

The Storage is where I made a change. I got all crazy years ago always wanting the most storage on the phone . My 15 had 512 and I still had like 400 left. So to save like $100 bucks with the upgrade, I went with the 256 and because so much is now stored in iCloud , I don't see any reason to sweat that at all.

So if you need a nee iPhone, now is the time to make the move, your old iPhone will bring in more money than you would expect. Hell $350 for a iPhone 11 is stupid good considering on the market it's worth $55.

    Dan, I made the move.

My new Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max arrives tomorrow.

It is replacing my AT&T iPhone 14.

Previously, I had the iPhone 6S, and I missed the larger size.

I am curious about the camera in the iPhone 18 Pro Max too.

Your post caused me to look at the marketing emails I was receiving from AT&T.
