Think you own the digital media you've bought and downloaded fair and square? Think again, I feel this is only the beginning.

Check out Louis Rossman's channel on YouTube. He is very vocal about this too. I've never bought a digital version of a movie. Always go for the disc. The discs typically have much higher bandwidth for the video and audio as well.

Absolutely! The Mpeg4 compression to transmit the bits leaves a LOT to be desired. The discs typically have much higher bandwidth for the video and audio as well.

Exactly why I own physical media.Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."
President of Club Polk -
Wow. I'm not surprised.
To @billbillw 's point re: bandwidth and quality...
I've streamed content for years, despite the flaws and drawbacks. It worked, and had been "good enough", since I'm not as into HT/video as much as audio, and don't want a giant collection of dvds, only my favorites, or rarities.
Then I finally hooked up the OPPO 103 I got from @skipshot12 several years ago to watch some stuff not available for streaming, nor even digital purchase. I shouldn't have been as blown away by the visual and audio quality improvements as I was, but I was. It was quite pleasing. No banding, smooth transitions, noticeably richer audio and surround performance.I disabled signatures. -
I use Streaming for convenience (qubuz), and the quality is there, I actually love it.
I don't purchase Digital Formats, I purchase what Vinyl, and SACD's I want to own, very rarely do I buy a standard CD anymore, especially if I can have it on vinyl..
I also purchase what bluray's especially 4K if I really want or like the movie..
I can also admit that my OPPO Players don't see the use they once did, since I upgraded my TT setup, it's more about the vinyl when playing physical media. That doesn't keep me from purchasing SACD's when they become available, I would rather have it when I want it.. -

Corporate theft is now a "push of the button" away.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists. -
One of the problems is the complex way TV shows, and to a lesser extent movies, have been produced and distributed and subsequent production studio buyouts and competition. They're all hungry for content so they can get paying subscribers on streaming services and have been making deals that aren't really of benefit to people who want to watch programs at home. One example is the show Homeland that was on Showtime for several seasons so it would make sense that their service would still have it. Nope. It was produced by Fox 21 which was bought out by Disney and the show streams on Hulu which is owned by Disney. Showtime is owned by Paramount.
I buy physical media. Only problem I have is I'd have to live to be 200 years old to watch most of it.
This is the usual legal disclaimer a service like Fandango has for anything that is purchased from them (indicating that a purchase is a license rather than an ownership right and can be terminated at any time without refund):
Future Changes Regarding Fandango at Home Purchased Content.
If we change any part of the Services, which we may do in our sole discretion, you acknowledge that you may not be able to access, view, or use the Content, including the Fandango at Home Purchased Content or Authorized Devices at all or in the same manner as prior to such changes, and you agree that we will not have any liability to you in such case. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue access to Content, including the Fandango at Home Purchased Content at any time without notice to you, and we will not be liable to you should we exercise such rights. We also reserve the right to institute a charge in the future for continued access to Fandango at Home Purchased Content, but notice shall be provided to you prior to instituting such a charge. You may download and store your own copy of Fandango at Home Purchased Content, that is purchased on an EST Basis, on certain Authorized Devices so that you can view that Content without additional charge. -
That whole thing ^^^^ right there is 100% the reason Divix failed. Buy a movie on Divix disc and you able to watch a very limited amount of times. They could also delete your ability to watch it at any time, so you're were stuck with a useless piece of plastic.

May I also suggest physical gold and silver.Since we don’t know where we are going we have to stick together in case someone gets there….Ken Kesey

I don’t buy as much physical media as I used to but I do buy a lot of movies if they are good (Dune as an example).
King Fu Panda is fine to stream lol…..
It’s also actually hard to find a lot of newer artists on physical media and as someone into EDM that’s even more the case."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I didn't notice this part at first, although I've never experienced it: We also reserve the right to institute a charge in the future for continued access to Fandango at Home Purchased Content, but notice shall be provided to you prior to instituting such a charge.
That would be like someone leasing a car with a value of $50,000 and later being told the value increased to $60,000 so pay up or stop driving. There may be laws that prevent that. LOL -
In fairness, when it comes to physical media, one owns the medium (media), not the content. One has a license to that content. Fortunately, except back in that RIAA "taping kills music" phase, those licenses are fairly seldom put to the test.

That said...
Not that I would ever encourage unlawful nor illegal behavior, nay, not even behavior of questionable ethics... but... there is always the option of streaming to Mylar.

Kids, don't try this at home!
PS of course, the purpose of the activity apparently
documented in the image above is the generation of an archival copy for off-site backup storage. Professional driver, closed course.

I agree many smaller artists outside of the mainstream music business only release the web/download versions of their music. Most purchased music can be downloaded and saved locally so they really can't take it away after you buy it.
The Sony garbage that started this thread is for movies purchased through the PlayStation store. Those really aren't stored locally without DRM that checks the Sony servers before playing. Most FLAC or ALAC downloads don't have any DRM, so you can always play them or burn to a CD-R if you really want "physical media."

msg… glad you’re enjoying the Oppo.

That's hard to sell why? -
Never had a problem selling gold or silver, as easy to sell as it is to buy. Although I’ve not sold much over the last twenty years.
Someone else made the comment “hard to sell”Since we don’t know where we are going we have to stick together in case someone gets there….Ken Kesey

Try selling silver anywhere close to spot or melt price.
If you find a source, lemme know!

Did you hear that! Jimmy, your mother's calling ......
😂😂
I went to a local jewelry store that has been in town doing their thing longer than I've been alive. For laughs I went to the local pawn shop, talk about needing to be hard up and stupid to take that deal. The jewelry store gave me what I thought was a respectable amount. They showed me the spot and it was 60/40 split. They will have some cost in melting it down to sell for the store. That would be me.

It was all old jewelry that my parents and grandparent had. I'm glad I just took the heap in. Some if the jewelry I thought was sceptical, was in fact the higher dollar pieces. One I thought was Da'bomb, was um not.....still worth something. It was prettier than worth.

Sort of like that brass-ish stuff... eh never mind. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I've been saying this for years. Digital storefronts are just subscriptions with extra steps.
