Hello,
Does anyone know if the mid drivers from reserve series would match the legend series?
I called polk and was told nothing was available for the legend.
More knowledgeable good people, please help?
Thanks.

Call Polk and ask for Kim Jasper. Maybe Kim can check with the engineers and see if they have something for you.

I believe the R500 mid-driver is the same 5.25" turbine driver as the L600.Political Correctness'.........defined

I gotta hear the story for why you need a mid driver for an L600.
Does it involve kids and a box of sharp, stabby colored pencils?

If the L600s are not under warranty, could just buy a pair of used Reserve R100s and get two 5.25" drivers plus a pair of tweeters by cannibalizing. The drivers by themselves aren't cheap. Best to confirm with Polk that they are the same part numbers in both models first though. The 7 inch drivers won't be found in any other speaker.

It amazes me that Polk could provide drivers for 30 year-old SDA’s, but five minutes after the production line is shut down a new speakers they run out of parts. I just want to stock some spares. No one poked anything, yet. -
Good idea because they are proprietary drivers in material and construction to Polk and the Legend line didn't seem to be around long enough that there are many speakers in the used market. If you can see the part number on the back of a 5.25" driver from your L600s that may help confirm with customer service that the same sized driver from a Reserve speaker will perfectly match.

Now I just need to make friends with someone who has the reserves to find out what the part number is.

Or call Polk like I suggested. -

Sounds like you haven't kept track of, e.g., the planned enforced obsolescence of AVRs in the past coupla decades.
It's all the rage in electronics.

Interestingly, the EU has rules that require repair support of most electronic products for (if memory serves) five years after they're discontinued -- but that probably only formally applies to manufacturers' service centers.

The way speaker manufactures operate is alot different than the way Polk and definitive ran.
Polk, definitive and golden ear, I assume with sandy gross influence used the same drivers across many different models. This made them far easier to service and produce im sure.
Polk the past twenty years has used different drivers across their lines and changed them with every line up change.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
The midrange driver for the L600 and L800 part # RD8681-1 are in route and we should see them by late July early August. They are specifically made for the L600 and L800 and there is no substitute.

Do the 5.25" drivers used in the Reserve speakers have a different part number with different specs?

So going based off other designs, midrange drivers developed as a midrange only have a much tighter suspension than one built to handle bass- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Ya, if i had bought some two years ago towards the end of the production run and had a warranty issue, being told "nothing was available" would down right tick me off, in a big way... Especially with a 5 year warranty...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me
