Dunno what he thinks about its sound , but I replaced a 851n with one last November and I think it sounds great , better than the 851 …. Also have an A6 , and it sounds great as well .

    I don’t have any complaints.
I’ve used the Cambridge Audio app - which sucks , and the Yamaha app as well as a few others …

No complaints . Works as it should. Snappy , speedy , no lag.
The “cast” function allows you to mirror the units display on your device - a game changing feature IMO …

I’m telling ya , look at the equipment in my sig - I’m not a neophyte, been in this game for 40+ years - this thing is fantastic….
Don’t care - where it’s made , it’s “pedigre” , price or “snob appeal” …. It just “works” , sounds great and has all the features anyone would want …. Truly and end game piece - for me , anyways.

I've been thinking for a few months about getting one of their streaming products. Does the A8 give you enough more to justify the cost above the A6? My use case would be running one into an AV preamp most likely rather than using its onboard preamp capabilities.

Probably not for how you want to use it .
    The A6 will do.

I needed the HDMI ARC input on the A8 so I could ditch my AVR.
I’m using the A6 in my pool/patio system and the A8 in my main setup - so for me , I wanted the analog R2R volume control , AKM dac and increased inputs of the A8.
I’m running the A8 straight into my A21 amp as a preamp and it sounds fantastic.
I can’t imagine anything else sounding better , no matter the cost.

Get one from Amazon , I think you’ll be impressed- if not return it.

The 6 and 8 have different dac chips. A6-ESS, A8-AK. From what I read, I thought I would like the AK chip better so I got an A8. Sounds great. I like it better than the cxn v2. Not using the preamp function. Running it balanced into my pre

I went through this when I was trying to decide on a streamer/DAC upgrade.

I decided to purchase the A8.

Several reasons; I wanted the AKM chipset over the ESS, I wanted the HDMI ARC in along with balanced out and in, I also wanted the upgraded dual power supply.

I'm running my A8 into my Prima Luna preamp, so I'm not taking advantage of the preamp capabilities, but if/when I move on from the A8 in my 2ch system, it could end up being a great preamp in another in my house.

I’m using both my A8 and A6 as a preamp straight into the amp ..
    They both sound great .

I'm sure the A6 sounds great.

Since the new streamer/DAC was going into my primary 2ch system, I was willing to chase some marginal gains.

So far, zero regrets with the A8.

The Eversolo T8 streaming media player has been out for a while now and has my interest as well as the companion Z10 DAC. I've had a DMP-A8 and find it to be a good if slightly bright sounding product that gets lots of firmware updates from the company but I don't use it for internet streaming because I don't want to pay for an additional service. Instead, I use it primarily to listen to my own WAV and high res music stored on a 4TB SSD mounted internally to avoid having to deal with WiFi limitations. It's been a rock solid performer.

The T8 has the option for two 8TB SSDs! Unfortunately, because of a shortage of SSDs in the consumer market starting several months ago because memory chips have been directed into the AI industry, getting two of the 8 TB drives now could cost from $2K to $5K depending on brand! I remember getting a Samsung 2TB SSD for around $100 a couple years ago.

It will use USB external hard drives which cost far less.

^^Two 8TB drives would hold an insane amount of music. I've been building my digital music collection from CD rips and downloads for 20+ years, more so in the last 10 years since Ive gone exclusively to streaming from my local server, and I still have just over 1TB saved. That includes 100+ high res 24 bit albums and 50 or more SACD rips, with approximately 2000 albums in total.

Given the absurd cost now, I wouldn't use 8TB SSDs in anything except for business but I would need two 4TB to fit my music library. I only use FLAC files in my car. Lots of classical music from box collections that isn't on the 4TB drive I have in my A8 would need to go on a second SSD.

A 20TB external hard drive for around $500 would make a whole lot more sense but that would definitely be overkill. 4TB versions are basically toss away products if they break after a couple years now. I have had some of those burn out but not a big deal with backups.

I don't see SSD prices coming down any time soon and that also has an effect on the prices of laptops and tablets that don't rely on disc drives. I was looking at pricing on those this morning and they are way up.

Shoot, 1TB is an insane amount of music!

I know that varies due to resolution, but let's take an average. A typical album at 24/192 FLAC is often around 2 to 3.5 GB, sometimes more. So 1 TB would hold roughly about 285 to 500 albums at that resolution.

I would hate to take all of my physical music and put it on the Memory Player. I would estimate taking up 4TB as well. My gripe is that I'd rather just play the physical music on whatever format I have to play it on, rather than spending the time to transfer it all over and having it all wiped out due to something failing.....and keeping up with backups as you add albums.

Tom, unless a significant amount of your physical media is SACD or DVD-A, you'd have to have 8000 CDs to fill up 4TB. I'm not considering analog to digital rips for vinyl, which I agree is not worth the effort. Do you have that many CDs?

Nah, about 1K LP's and maybe 1200 or so CD's. I am new to all of this digital storage stuff and I have only transferred 4 CD's so far (The Memory Player was pre-loaded with mostly audiophile albums from the previous owner). I have a boat ton of storage left and 2 BU 1TB HD's. Looks like I will never use all of it....which I am perfectly fine with.

All of these sources, combined with streaming on Tidal and Qobuz, I have more music available than I will ever listen too.

I put a 2TB card into my A8 in March of last year, $105.

Now, the same card is $270…

    Yikes.
