SDA-2B Studio, ideas for upgrading the pedestal?

I haven't been following the Vintage Speaker section much since I sold my pair of SDA-1C in 2010. I recently acquired a pair of 2B Studio and I'm thinking about ways to improve on the factory pedestal which is too narrow and isn't tapped for spikes. Has anyone else tackled this before with success? I searched here and with Google and couldn't find anyone who had posted about this.

I was thinking of fabricating a 1" thick board to almost match the outer dimensions on the base the cabinet. Maybe it would be 1/8" smaller overall? Then painted black with something durable like Granotone speaker paint. The corners would be tapped in a standard thread for spikes/decoupling feet and I would attach it with some type of elastomeric adhesive and wood screws.

I suppose another option would be to just remove the pedestal and tap the speaker cabinets directly, but I don't want to loose height and I don't want really long spikes.

What am I looking at Jesse? You removed the fiber board box and just installed those large spikes? Are those "Larry's Spikes?" I'm afraid to ask what those would cost to make these days.

Not from Larry. Not sure where I bought those. I looked around, but didn't see them anywhere. However, I did see these...https://edensoundaudio.com/shop/solid-brass-spike-extra-large/

IIRC, the base is 1.5" tall, so those brass spikes would retain the proper height.

I guess my thinking was that the original cabinet material isn't the strongest. I've seen lots of spikes that get bumped and the threaded insert just destroys the surrounding wood/fiber. I guess I'll do some looking around for spikes that can get flush, which would lessen the torque on the cabinet wood if it were bumped.

I haven't experienced that but I also use power grab on the threads during install

Those aren't a bad price. Parts express has some that are also 1.5" tall, but they are built in 3 or 4 pieces with the adjustable tip. I prefer the 1 piece solid cones.

Spikes worked great on mine, but I got lucky and bought them about 10 minutes from my house for $32 from meniscus audio, but the owner retired a few years ago.

I did a ton of business with Menicus Audio, miss them and Ogden audio greatly.
