Rotated my Thorens TD 165 (bought new in 1974) back into the main system. Running a Pickering XV-15 D1200E cartridge with a retipped D1200 stylus. Grant Green sounds amazing. Do need to figure out a better isolation solution; meanwhile avoiding that one floorboard . . .

Today, I busted out some old gear to test a pair of SDA-2B that fell into my lap thanks to a very generous friend. Unfortunately my 2ch amp is not common ground, so I have to use a lowly Yamaha RX-595 receiver.
This is the first time I've listened to a pair of SDA since I sold my pair of modded 1C back on 2010. I'm enjoying them! They put out better bass than I was expecting for this big room.

I decided these 2B deserved better amplification. A lightly used NAD C 2755BEE was delivered this afternoon and it is now wired to my STP-SE preamp and the SDAs. Not quite as powerful as my Class-D amp, but I think I can live with a solid 150wpc for now. I've always liked the Polk/NAD synergy. I really like what I've heard from these 2B so far. I don't remember my 1C sounding this refined.
It's going to be a tough decision where to put these 2B full time.

I had a CB1000 in 1994. It was, by far, my favorite motorcycle ever! Those SDA's look fantastic, BTW. Enjoy!

I often wish that I had a friend within my close circle that enjoys music the way you and your friend do. That's so rare these days. Thank you for sharing!

I'm lucky that my father and my aforementioned friend love music.

My friend has never felt the need to invest in higher and audio gear. Always had the attitude that whatever he cobbled together was perfectly fine, and in all reality as long he is good with it, it is.

But last night he mentioned that he is contemplating more of a "big boy system". It won't be anything fancy, but something with some thought and purpose behind it. I can't wait to give him a ton of advice that he will probably ignore. :D

I hooked up my SVS SB16’s in my HT rig, and pulled out my OPPO 205, I had put it away since we haven’t been using it much anymore, and it’s a piece that I refuse to let go of.
Watched BOLT, and played Dark Side Of The Moon in surround sound, while I dumped our jug of coins, and the wife and I pulled all the pennies out, figured we would get rid of them before the banks refuse to accept them sometime down the road..

Anyway, it was fun listening to DSOTM in surround..

I was able to upgrade the XLR's from the DAC to the AVP, pulling the Mackenzies and putting in a pair of Yukons.

Good movie. I still have that in my daughter's library. Haven't watched in a while but will probable revisit here soon.

She doesn't watch any of those anymore (18 year old lol) but I'll pull one out now and then and reminisce

Lucky me - my Metrum Acoustics Onyx R2R DAC fits onto the same shelf as my Benchmark HPA4 preamp B)

EDIT: For those interested, there is a balanced/XLR connection between the DAC and the preamp.
Now I can more freely switch phono preamps onto the upper shelf B)

That is still something I haven't experienced. My 1st and 2nd SACD players were both 2-channel only. I have a Sony BD player that can read SACD, but it is only in my 3.1 system. My HT setup has a Panny UB420, which can play DSD files, but not SACDs. One of these days, I have to take the Sony player down to the basement HT and give it a try.

There is nothing like the cash register cha-chinging speaker to speaker 360*.
There are many SACD and DVD-audio that was/is a blast to sit back to in complete surround sound.
    Elton John's SACD/DVD-A are others.
