Oh, I remember the stench of cigarette smoke on airplanes. I grew up in the era of almost everyone smoking, so I was used to the smell, but the airplanes were particularly bad IMO.

Yeah, it was bad. I started with the post office in 85. Half the break room was smoking. And crazy as it sounds, there were clip on ash trays for the manual case workers. As a kid I remember hating to go out to eat and having to inhale cigarette smoke while eating. -
My dad's after dinner dessert consisted of two consecutive cigarettes stabbed out onto his dinner plate when done.
