If anyone gets a chance to see some of the UHVDC Substations do it, they look like something out of the movie Forbidden Planet.

    mmmmmmmm...

I am thinking the future of DC is local: PVs, batteries, and inverters.
I am (we are), however, still resisting batteries here.

We did chicken out on installing a tracker system in 2024 and opted to re-do the original system on the roof (the one on the main roof). I couldn't quite rationalize the cost... but we came really close.

In the 70's I worked for a guy that had a purple AMC Pacer. I drove it sometimes. It really was a good running little bubble. He never had any problems with it. He traded it in for a Datsun pickup.

This nicely illustrates the symmetry principle of physics. It's not a universal physical law, but symmetry is pretty widespread in the universe. B)

So... the 1910 duck story I posted in the "doing it wrong" thread got me to thinking about canards (where storytelling, ducks, and French all intersect)... which, of course*, led me to the XB-70 Valkyrie.
... and I learned something I didn't know until today! Whoda thunk it?**

If I had access to non-ethanol 87 gas it would be all I used.

When I get back to the house I add 8oz. of pure acetone to the full tank.

Agreed Ivan - we have 88 octane at most stations here in UT, but it’s 40-50 cents more than regular 85 octane. They call it “clear gas” (blue pump handle), and I use it exclusively in all my small engine power equipment, and I put it in my truck that sits for long stretches now that I have a company car.

Wow! 30% more expensive to get 2 to 4% better mpg. No thanks. I would buy it for my mower and snowblower though.

Many of my most trusted mechanics over the years have insisted it does not do an engine good. My vehicles have gotten better fuel mileage with 100% gas.

All my small motors get 93 octane 100% gas here. Until a few years ago I was unaware that the mountain region had way different octane ratings in their gas due to altitude.

I haven’t found 93 around here. Best near me is 91.
