A grainy photograph taken in 1864 shows a group of Japanese samurai standing in front of the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt. This jolting image messes with our sense of history – the traditional Japanese clothes, the ancient Egyptian monument, and the European camera just don’t seem to add up. As unexpected as this combination may be, the 161 year-old photograph highlights a pivotal moment in the history of Japan and the globalized world.
The image depicts the Second Japanese Embassy to Europe, also called the “Ikeda Mission.” Under the order of the Tokugawa shogunate, the military dictators who ruled feudal Japan, local governor Ikeda Nagaoki was sent off to Europe in 1864 in a bid to resolve a burning disagreement over the port of Yokohama."Sometimes you have to look to the past to understand where you are going in the future"Harry / Marietta GA -
Speaking of rescue, we rescued this cute little kitty the 18th. I'm returning from the mail box around 7:30pm, its dark out, 10f degrees, and it latches onto me in the garage. It scared me.
Called non emergency police, they notified animal control who picked it up. It had a chip and the owners were notified and they picked it up.

Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Today, December 31, 2025, marks the 146th anniversary of Thomas Edison's grand public demonstration of his practical incandescent light bulb at Menlo Park, New Jersey, in 1879. Thousands arrived by special trains to see the lab and grounds aglow with dozens of steady-burning bulbs—powered by his dynamo—heralding the electric age and inspiring our modern holiday and New Year's light displays.
From those pioneering carbon-filament lights to the iconic Times Square ball drop (first electrified in 1907), American ingenuity has turned darkness into celebration.
Tonight, as we welcome 2026—our nation's 250th anniversary year—let's embrace that pioneering spirit: innovating boldly, uniting joyfully, and illuminating a future of freedom and promise.
Wishing you a sparkling New Year's Eve full of light and hope!

New Years Eve marketplace buy. I needed some Scotch 203 for the two Teac A-6300's to calibrate bias # 2 setting. Bias # 1 was calibrated for new tape, LPR35. 203 isn't known for sticky shed syndrome. I can include some when I sell the deck(s).
203 for $8 each, new LX for $20 and the Realistic switch box for $6.
