First Time buying a Used Vehicle is a very long time.

Hello everyone,

So back in the spring , I started searching used SRT Durango's. I found very few back than and the ones I found, I wasn't exactly happy with. As most of you know, I'm a Perfectionist with my cars , garage kept , no daily drivers etc. Ceramic coated and always detailed. Dodge stopped making the SRT Durango in 2024.

So buying a used car for me is very hard. I find anything wrong and I'm out. I basically look for a new car used and that just wasn't working out for me. I looked at a few that I could find SRT Durango's and again, I was OUT!!. Scratches , worn looking interiors etc with only 15k miles really turned me off. So I started looking R/T Durango's , I was hoping to find another one like I had back in 2017 just a lot newer. I also looked new as in 2025 , they still offered the R/T Trim level with Trim levels within the R/T trim level. Ok I know that sounded confusing a bit but if your shopping cars, you know .

Anyway , after a few months of going to lots, looking at Durango's I didn't want due to condition, I looked at the last R/T which was in New Jersey. Redline Red, 11k Miles and a great price. I took my Scat Pack Charger 2020 model year there and the Salesman was shocked in the condition and low miles. He thought it was a 2023 and super well taken care of. Better then most new ones he said and he also said I will get top dollar on my trade. I looked at the 2024 Durango R/T and it was scratched, stained and I just walked out. The salesman understood as he said hardly no one takes care of their cars like you do meaning me. It made me sad but I know most don't and I knew used was a mistake.

So I started planning a Hellcat Durango, the cost was just insane and I just couldn't justify spending 100k+ on a truck that isn't as fast as a Challenger Hellcat for less.

Than I woke up one Friday morning, it was an Office day for me which means work from home and a 2021 Durango SRT Came up in Destroyer Grey. 30k miles and just traded. The pictures looked promising but I had no faith as none of these used ones where in anywhere good condition to my standards. So I called, the salesman said it was the owners sons and it was garage kept, serviced always and early at the dealership and always detailed and super clean. I thought whatever but my curiosity got me and I decided to take the drive and check it out. If it sucked whatever , I expected that anyway.

To my surprise , It looked pretty damn good on first look as I parked a few spots from it. The salesman pulled it right out front so I had plenty of room to walk around it open the doors etc. I walked around it 3 times before I opened a door. I couldn't find a ding , scratch anywhere and I started looked hard. Then I opened the door and the interior was in near perfect condition except the floor mats. They showed signs of wear but that doesn't phase me, I planned on getting new ones no matter what.

The interior was slightly dirty, not to the average but for me not perfect. Again no wear so dust doesn't bother me I'm a hobbyist detailer. The salesman took a look at my car and again shock set it and said no one takes care of their cars like that not even the Son of the dealership who was almost as a freak as me. They also offered top dollar as it was the cleanest nicest Scat pack ever traded in.

I drove it and then purchased it. It checked all my boxes , well it was a bit older that I actually wanted , I wanted a 2024 or 2023 but this one with just turned 30k miles was in better condition than any 2023 or 2024 I looked at R/T or SRT.

I got a good deal, I was happy with the dealership, I have now owned it for a few months now and I can't be happier with it. I miss the Charger but the Durango serves my current needs better. No I don't daily drive my cars as I have a work van I use for work and only drive my vehicles when I need to do personal stuff.

I already took it to the dragstrip for fun and no it's not as fast as the Scat pack but it still gets up and goes.

Congrats on the new vehicle. I can't stand shopping for vehicles. I'm going to do whatever I can to keep ours until they die, plus vehicles are just so darn expensive now.

Thanks man. The Reel is from Home Depot and it's awesome. I use it for the Pressure washer, the vacuum and when I polish. You can set how low or high you want it to hang. I think it's 50-100 feet long.

I completely understand that. I have a method when I shop for cars which I seem to do often enough. If it's not for me or my wife , It's for my Son or my Daughter.

Will you give us a tour of the inside or are you going to detail it first.

I assume you went to Radford Racing school out in Arizona? I was there as well. It's a Mopar dream to be there. What a place.

    Sure,
I actually took some shots when I replaced the SRT floor mats with the 3D Maxpinder all weather mats. I had the same brand in my 2020 Scat pack Charger.

The interior has not been fully detailed yet, but I'll get around to it. I have wiped it down.

We are thinking about a suv. The wife hates hiway driving. I'm hoping
a bigger vehicle will calm her down. Right now if I drive on a busy hiway,
The only way she'll ride along is if she sits in the back seat. She's ok on
quiet hiways. We are going to start looking at used 4runners after the
the new year. Maybe even a Sequoia.

I'd drive many of them before you decide. I think Toyota is overpriced and under whelming as far as styling is concerned especially the 1995 interiors they still seem to use. But they are high quality and will last a long time.
Nissan has made a considerable update on their Pathfinder, nice styling and lines, good power and a very nice stylish interior. This is a gem not many are talking about.
The Durango's are very dated but have made updates. The New GT models are all now 5.7L HEMI engines so you can have some fun. The Durango's are road vehicles and are a pleasure to drive. Don't sleep on the Durano models.

I haven't been to a Dodge dealer since "the incident". Let's just say
It was an experiment in how bad customer service can get. Yes,
Toyotas are overpriced. Of course, right now it's all overpriced.
Add to it vehicles made post covid are all suffering from bad
quality control. I really don't drive much anymore. I don't need
a lot of horsepower, don't care much about style. I only want it
to run well. I don't need a sunroof or dazzling gadgets. I remember
a salesman trying to sell me on lighted cup holders and Bluetooth
sync. I don't care. If I had my way I'd drive my Camry till it drops.
It's 16 years old, and only has 124k on it. I could die before the
    Car does.

We all experience cars vehicles in our own way my friend. I just so happen to be as passionate, honestly more passionate then our hobby here. I could easily go back to the automotive field and leave this one even though I own my own AV business.

Somewhere along the line the thrill of a new car wore off for me.
Enjoy your ride. Until I find a 69 Camaro I doubt that any car is
going to thrill me. Or maybe a 71 Cuda!

I hear you there. We currently have a 2017 MDX and 2018 RDX. I will drive them into the ground. Our next vehicles will be what ever we can get that's has the better longevity and least expensive. Driving dynamics and power 95% of the time we can't take advantage of it so why bother. The only thing I'll be looking for is a V6 if they still make them by the time we're ready.

Similar here. Days of V8s and twin turbo V6s are done. I'm driving a relatively cheap Subaru Forester now and loving it.
