When we lived in Harvard, MA -- there was a family in town who lived a few hundred yards from the school. They proposed a budget amendment on the floor at the annual town meeting* for the taxpayers to fund the construction of a sidewalk from their street to the school.
This is even a little bit worse than it sounds, as there were (and still are) virtually no sidewalks in the town of Harvard. It's a quintessential New England small town -- with excellent schools and (in those days) no dearth of yuppie scum parents sending their snowflakes children to them.

* This is a New England thing -- in many New England towns, we actually govern ourselves. It's quite a remarkable thing... and perhaps the best civics lesson a citizen'll ever get.
