    I'm pretty sure the joist inserted into the beam (assuming they are secured somehow??) isn't going anywhere

    The floating girder/header on the other hand is... Concerning
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

    If done properly, there will be blocking/noggins secured between each joist that locks everything in place (in the I-beams, and along the joists span).

    If you want to seen this being done, the YT channel "Escape to Rural France" has shown this on a pretty large scale as he rebuilt the floors in his chateau.

    I'm not saying the above picture makes me feel good, the work looks fairly sloppy and some very, very questionable framing choices. But in general, there is nothing wrong with notching joist directly into an I-beam, when done properly.
