Nothing personal, but it amazes me the number of first posts that are problem oriented.

    Have you tried below ?

Unplug power from sound bar, subwoofer and surrounds

    a) Plug in sound bar

    b) Wait for sound bar to boot – the orange LED will stop blinking and turn off

    c) Press Power button on the sound bar – furthest right LED should illuminate Orange

    d) Press Mute on the bar – LED should now pulse white indicating Mute

    e) Plug in subwoofer and surrounds and confirm the LED on the back of the units is solid green

    f) Wait about 10 seconds.

    g) If there is an update available, the furthest left LED should begin pulsing white indicating the update has started and the LEDs will gradually fill in and show the progress of the update. (If there is no update available, there will be no additional LED activity and indicates everything is up to date)

    h) The update can take up to 10 minutes

    i) When the update finishes, the furthest right LED will turn green and then all of the LEDs will go Off after about 10 seconds

    j) At this point, the update has completed and sound bar is ready to use.

    k) Power on the sound bar and play 5.1 content to confirm everything is working properly and there is sound coming out of the bar, sub and surrounds.

  • How do I get the LED red to change to green as it looks as if on standby, yet its working....?

Doesn't work. I've tried everything to reconnect surrounds and literally nothing works.
Firmware 136 and I don't know if there is an update (the gide below didn't help - maybe there is no update after all).
I think it was our first and last purchase of Polk products.
    Not recommended.
  • Let me refer this to a friend at Polk.

Hello, is there any way that you can force a firmware upgrade for the magniFi Max, mine doesn't appear to want to update at night even though it is all connected up.( currently on 136 ), the reason for my update request is that the surround speakers and subwoofer does not link to the sound bar .

This has bees our fist supposed “best option for high quality speakers” and it hasn’t been a good experience at all.

No one on Polk hadn’t the facility to help . And this if not the service we spect when buying this “high quality” speakers …

I'll forward your request to a contact at Polk, I might not have an answer until Monday, but hang in there we can help.
  • I have been battling Polk for years because of the popping noise in the surrounds. In the beginning they always told me to wait for an update. Then it gets past the warranty and they don't seem to want to help at all. I have saved every single complaint from every forum I can find. Including the complaints on here. It is now to the point where I feel the need to get a lawyer and file a class action lawsuit. If anyone is interested in teaming up with me on this. Find me on Facebook. My name is Blake Biellier.

Hello everyone, I don't know what happened, but the sound of my device (Polk magnifi max SR 5.1) is now not as voluminous as before. The rear speakers work, the front ones work and the subwoofer works, but there is no overall clear voluminous sound as before. As if the necessary frequencies are not there. I listen to music from Tidal. I watch movies from Netflix and Apple TV. I play in PlayStation. The sound does not fill the space. ((( Is it possible to get the firmware on a flash drive? Maybe last year?

    Hello,
Welcome to the Polk forum. When a speaker system doesn't sound as full or voluminous it usually means that one or more of the components inside the speaker isn't functioning. If the change is mostly in high frequencies then a tweeter is most likely the cause. If the change is more with voice or middle range sounds then a mid range driver is at fault. And of course a lack of bass is caused by a woofer being broken.
I've never known Polk to have their firmware updates available in any other method than via the internet, but I'll ask for you.

A response from a Polk product specialist:

"We have not had an update in a long while and there are none planned since this model is discontinued.
He may have changed decoding modes on the bar. Has he gone through the setting and made changes?

    Using the Remote:

One-Button Presets: The remote typically has buttons for Movie, Music, and Sports modes, which optimize the sound for those specific types of content.
Night Mode: This mode is designed for low-volume listening, reducing bass and improving voice intelligibility, according to the User Manual.
Polk Voice Adjust: Some models have a Voice Adjust button that enhances dialogue clarity.

The firmware is updated automatically once connected to the internet

To update the firmware on your Polk Magni-Fi Max soundbar, connect it to Wi-Fi using the Google Home app, and updates will occur automatically overnight.

    Hope this helps."

Do you know what I would compare the soundbar's sound changes to? It's when there are all the furniture elements in the room, pictures on the walls, carpets, curtains, a sofa, armchairs... And suddenly... at one point half the furniture disappears and the sound becomes different. That's how I would describe it. There's no other way. You have to hear it. And before that, I enjoyed every sound and note. But I won't shout that Polk is a bad company. You're great! And the sound of your products is excellent.

So the sound is more reverberant, more reflective, correct? Which of the presets are you using to listen? There is "movie", "music" and "sports" available.

How does the sound change when you listen to "music"?

I've tried this and can't get passed the surrounds not attaching. Is there a way to bypass the surrounds to update?

    Hello,
Welcome to the Polk forum. Are the the surround speakers that came with the soundbar? Or, were they bought after the soundbar purchase? Also which model are they?
