Eating out

Options
So the wife wanted to go buy something today and go to a restaurant
Close by. Paid $$$ for barely edible food. This seems to happen all the time now.
There's a handfull of places that seem to consistently serve up great meals.
The rest are awful. Even big buck places aren't good, or consistent.
I really have to question why I bother to go out. The wife's cooking is better
Than 90% of them. I get the feeling sooner or later there is going to be a
real bloodbath in the food industry. A lot of these guys won't stay in business.
And fast food? Sorry, even worse. They can't even make a decent hamburger
Or taco anymore.

I agree, I end up disappointed a lot of the time we go out. My wife and I cook a lot of good stuff at home for 1/5 the price.

Always find it funny when people complain about the price of fast food… like, it’s been expensive for a year or so now and you KNOW what you’re gonna get… it mostly sucks, is always a bad value, and bad for you. It hits the spot occasionally but you know what you’re gonna get.

Going out or going grocery shopping just isn’t fun anymore. The stores suck, the staff at most of the restaurants are horrible, and half the time you wonder why you paid for it..

About the only times we eat out is when we're given gift certs for various eateries. Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesday, are good but both the local casino's buffets were terrible.
My very favorite spot eating away from home is at the campsite. To me there's nothing like cooking a good cut of steak over the coals of a wood fire. Paired up with locally grown corn cooked in the husk buried in those same coals are my favorite meals away from home.

I think a lot has to do with where you live when it comes to quality eateries. Here in the Philly/ South Jersey area we have phenomenal Mom & Pop restaurants for every cuisine. Most of them are BYOB which is pretty much the norm. If you want a full bar then the franchise eateries are your ticket...you do give up quality food for that drink though.

I get a good laugh when my son & his wife who live in Shreveport, LA can't wait to come home for a visit to get their Italian food fix.

We eat at a restaurant every week but I can't recall the last time we ate out at a chain eatery. We are fortunate to have several small mom/pop places to choose from and not only is the food better than the big franchises, it's cheaper too.

Which reminds me.....Tonight is pick up a pizza night, large 2 topping tasty pie will set me back a whopping $14 with tip.

Wow, $14 for a 2 topping non-chain pie is cheap! All the mom and pops around me seem like they are $17ish at least, without toppings. They may have promos I don’t know about, though.

We have a little regional "chain" (two shops -- so a very small chain) that's very good. My only complaint is that their pizzas are hyper-salty. Takes us a couple of days to recover. :|

I live in the Hilton Head area and most places have good food. With so many restaurants the competition eliminates the subpar. But there are still "tourist" restaurants.

That pizza price is their Monday special, otherwise prolly closer to $17. Tomorrow is wings night at a local brewery, $.50 wings and $2 "chain" beers...their beers are a bit more.

    Great topic.
We don't go out to eat that much anymore due to all the factors listed above. Wee have a very small selection of places that are worth to go to like the Harvest Inn and Seasons 52. Basically the same place but the quality is always great.

I much prefer to eat at home for the money, but getting out is not just about the food, it's about sharing time with others and enjoying each others company in a different environment. It's what my wife enjoys the most.

    My 2 cents.

I travel a lot for work and eating out is the option. Maybe Door Dash but not all the time.

A few places I have visited that service is good and food is great.

If you are in Milwaukee check Cubanitas.

    https://www.getbianchini.com/

In the Houston Galleria Area check Sage 400 and Moxie's the later is better than the ones in Canada.

    https://www.sage400.com/

    https://moxies.com/restaurants/houston

In Champaing Illinois check Watson's Shack and Rail.

    https://www.watsonschicken.com/menu

In Pullman, WA check Paradise Creek Brewery. Is located on a old Post Office Building.

    https://paradisecreekbrewery.com/contact/

A good breakfast in Orlando, FL Keke,s Breakfast Cafe.

    https://www.kekes.com/

In Saugus, MA close to Boston Route 1 Grill.

    https://www.route1grillhouse.com/

If in the Winnipeg area try The Merchant Kitchen.

    https://themerchantkitchen.com/

    Just to name a few.

    Cheers

Next time you're in Chambana Il. hit me up, I'm 45min from Chambana and travel there often as my son lives there. First time I've heard of the Watson restaurant and it looks good. I'll probably try it soon.

If you are ever in Memphis, avoid the Rendezvous.
Famous downtown BBQ place. Why,I don't know.
Complere garbage. There are a lot of BBQ places in
the area. Any of them are better and cheaper.

If anyone is ever down near Jacksonville or Saint Augustine, FL? You WANT to make it a point to go to Woodpecker's Backyard BBQ. Definitely a hole in the wall and it's always packed. Always. Well, until the food runs out.

The one time I was there with my son it was very subpar. OF course my son said he has never gotten a bad meal with the exception of the time he and I went.

Lots of folks do like it.

Haha, @Irrenhaus ! Not many people get out to Pullman, but I've been to that restaurant when my daughter graduated from WSU. Good food. Good beer. Fun place.

In the area of Long Beach where I live there are several good restaurants. A few within walking distance. Some sucky places too, for sure. One of the really good/inexpensive places is a little hole-in-the-wall, cash-only taqueria. Walk up window only. The wait is a bit long for your food but man is it worth it.

A large stuffed pizza around me, delivered, is 60-70 bucks. Thin crust, pick up, is around 25-30.

Guys, these chain restraunts, gotta be careful. One almost put me back in the hospital with all the sodium. My whole meal was close to 8000 mgs, which is basically 4 days worth. That was Coopers Hawk. Most the chain joints now get stuff in prepackaged and they just heat it up, but they are loaded with sodium. Nobody has an actual cook anymore, unless it's an upper quality joint, or ma and pa shop. I steer clear of these chain joints like Applebees, Coopers Hawk, etc.

There are a few good BBQ places in N and NW Metro Atlanta, but the good ones are a minority - (2) City BBQ locations, Big Shanty Smokehouse, Jim n Nick's BBQ and their Nick's location in Acworth, near me.
A couple of good Greek places - It's Greek to Us, Come and Get It (southern cooking,) and Mr Kebab.
Best pizza place in metro ATL I know is Generations Pizza in Acworth. They have malt crust and tangy sauce with quality ingredients throughout.
