If there are any Elna Dourex II electrolytic caps in there get them out immediately. There are ticking time bombs that will eat all the trace and board.
Ask me how I know.
I've had older ( than yours) Sony ES CD players and the first one I bought is still going strong. My son has it now I bet it has tens of thousands of hours on it and it marches on.
My newest ES player is The X33ES, my first was either a 506 or 508ES both bought new. Those early Lasers were bulletproof -
