If there are any Elna Dourex II electrolytic caps in there get them out immediately. There are ticking time bombs that will eat all the trace and board.

    Ask me how I know.

I've had older ( than yours) Sony ES CD players and the first one I bought is still going strong. My son has it now I bet it has tens of thousands of hours on it and it marches on.
My newest ES player is The X33ES, my first was either a 506 or 508ES both bought new. Those early Lasers were bulletproof

While researching the Elna Dourex caps, I ran across this thread on AK: https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/sony-cdp-x33es-how-come-nobody-told-me-cds-could-sound-this-good.873108/ Interestingly enough, that thread is also about a Sony CDP. About halfway down the page, one guy (Bratwurst) mentions adding by-pass film caps onto a couple of the electrolytic caps, stating that it improves fidelity.

I did enjoy this release but as usual the SQ wasn’t what I hoped for. It’s good but not as good as I would’ve liked.
