Kind of like asking how many miles per hour do you drive.

    yup, absolutely!
I mean, sometimes you just need that extra 0.02 dB to get the job done!

FWIW (and not surprisingly) I like what Col. Paul W. Klipsch said (by implication) about amplifier power.

Said the Colonel (and he was a Colonel -- well... he was promoted to Lt. Col. in the reserves after WWII):
"After all, bragging about how much power your speaker can absorb is like bragging about how much fuel your vehicle can burn."

The Dope from Hope Vol. 14. No. 1, April 1974

I am chagrined that I didn't catch that -- I love that movie. Haven't seen it in a long time, though.

1200 wpc on tap but I voted 1-20 wpc because according to my meters that's where 99% of my listening is done. 20wpc continuous is pretty loud.

That doesn't mean that extra power is going to waste. Fast transients may not make the meters move much, but that extra power is there when and where it's needed.

I answered based upon what each of my LCR has on tap. My system including subs currently approaches 2K RMS. I know it probably hovers just below 100 system, maybe 5X on “busy” peaks? I’ve haven’t heard it “break a sweat” in its current config so I don’t really care

Well, I don't have 4k ft^2, but I do have ca. 700 ft^2, and 3-ish watts pressurizes it just fine -- some of us let the loudspeakers do the work; that's why they call 'em loudspeakers. B)

The 10’ ceiling make the diff for my future 400 compartmentalized square feet.

Current layout “fills” less square footage w/8’ ceilings but open to kitchen and hall leading to bedrooms.

3 awesome watts driving very sensitive speakers...😊

I only use maybe 0.87 watts with a 91 db/w speaker to jam. I'm sure some here will calculate that...

IMO for quality solid state 100-150wpc gets the job done for most applications. 200+ seems to add that extra level of refinement even at moderate levels especially for high impact sounds.

That said I have an old 70's Kenwood rated at 45wpc that seems to be closer to 100.

I have a single ended triode amp that is my best sounding amp. It uses a pair of 45 triodes and clips at about 2 watts. I normally listen with the volume pot at two o’clock or so depending on source.
