I want outdoor speakers* for my pending back deck facelift. Wouldn’t get used for a while.
But
I want to replace an aging Plasma** about the same size. Would get used the day it arrives

*really want 4; prefer a different brand
** demands a remote to power up and Off; Energy hog too

Leaning towards TV

No rush. Thanks for your input. Tony

Their outdoor stuff doesn't suck, especially if just for entertaining. Solidly made, good at broadcasting sound. Great for years outside, and the 251's have a respectable sound. Blasphemy I know, I'd never say it about anything for inside.

But I'd go for the TV. Use it all the time, they're a bunch better than older gear, upgrades are fun, can do more with it, smart features etc...

Which one is cheaper to outright purchase? Since you want both, take the more expensive one as a gift.

Forgot to mention I had other choices* but narrowed to these.
    You already know Bose* blows.
    Trying to be civilized.
    *different categories - none AV

My concern is getting 2 more to match w/out bustin’ the budget. Notorious* for being pricy compared to their competition.

Still leaning towards the TV. For those that weren’t aware, I retired early December.

I was given a pr. of 151's by my older friend Paul years ago. He got them at a flea market for 5.00 for the pr.. :D

    They sound great!

Now I had bought a set of Polk Atrium 55s and he needed a pr. for his back deck, so I sold them to him for the same 50.00 I pd. on eBay about 8 years ago.

    Here are my B**e 151s.

I recently got a couple of Samsung 55's for the same price (ea), probably less than my LG 43" The prices seem to be way down if you can make a 55" work.

Well first of all congrats on your retirement! I admire (and am slightly jealous  ) of anyone who had endured a majority of their life working for others.

You deserve a brand new set of L800's! IMO of course!

But, given the options, heck both are good, as you most likely will be spending more time at the tube, and outdoors.

Hmm, I'd opt for the TV! Since it would get immediate use. Congrats!

Thanks for everyone’s input I ordered the TV. Should be here in 4-6 weeks.

BTW the Bose speakers offered instead of the TV were upscale to the model mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

My 43” LG arrived, model 43UM69. I know what 4K means but not the phrase “4K active HDR.” After I post I’ll head over to the LG site.

    Includes:
    Netflix
    Prime Video
    Hulu
    Sling
    YouTube
    Vudu
and an LG specific app, CH LG Channels. Don’t know if any of the above qualifies as the “Garbage” in the above posts.

Early review: looks pretty good. However, by comparison, my now 7 year old Samsung, always has a brighter picture under different ambient lighting.

If you’re broke but MUST have a new TV NOW for your kid, buy it*. My gut told me seconds after I got a DirecTV image on the screen what you’ll read in reviews. Even after I went through the very limited video settings for the brightest setting, could be brighter.
    * I’d ask and look around for a used TV

Not I bad as a gift I guess but I wouldn’t pay much more than $200. I believe it retails @ $229 (BB)

Does your Samsung adjust the backlight based on ambient light detection? Mine does, it works quite well. And the controls let you make the picture really pop if you want, without blowing colors or brightness out too bad. Kinda fun.

I think, no but perhaps it’s so subtle I didn’t see a change.

I did all testing during the day. Both TVs
    1. connected to the identical sources & programming - Andy Griffith and daytime talk
    2. in rooms w/darkening drapes.

You’ve inspired me to check carefully tonight after sundown.

I’m certain NO for the LG. I agree w/reviews: it should be brighter under all conditions.
Mine does, it works quite well. And the controls let you make the picture really pop if you want, without blowing colors or brightness out too bad. Kinda fun.
Like the LG, my Samsung has several preset combos of brightness*, contrast*, & “temp* **.”
Unlike the LG, the Samsung also***provides separate*** tweaks*** for the previous*.
    ** warm, neutral, or cool
*** you get what you pay for

LG going in my kid’s room today before he gets home.

It’s honestly one of my favorite features. Once I got all the other settings as I liked them it seems to track ambient light quite welll, allowing the backlight to be turned to zero for night viewing in a dark room when you’re trying to sleep and don’t want a bright **** television in your face but will turn it all the way up of daytime, and yet still manages to intuitively get the setting right for all other lighting conditions.
