Most missing remotes could be found hidden in missing socks....if the socks weren't also missing.

I don't even know why I want it, I just think it would be cool to own one and hear it. Plus it would match my SA-KI Ruby.

But realistically I have nowhere to store it and I'm already being owned by my devices, instead of the other way around.

Speaking of being owned by devices, have you met verb? Oops, I may have just gotten myself kicked out of a pretty sweet karma. Dangit!

Finally got a Marantz reference integrated. A PM-14S1 in almost Dave @verb minty condition popped up on eBay so I jumped on it:

Few small marks on the back right corner, and some hairline scratches on the cover. Also some marks underneath that you can't see that were covered up with black Sharpie. But the front and back are free of any blemishes which is where you usually see the most wear on these. The remote appears to be in unused condition.

Some dust buildup inside indicating that it sat uncovered, unfortunately. But shouldn't cause any problems, and overall it's in very nice condition. Looking forward to giving it a test run soon.

    SCORE!!!

Have only listened to it for a few hours on a pair of speakers I'm not too familiar with, but that being said...

It's sound quality is well beyond what I expected. Abundant 3D imaging effects. Good depth to the sound, as well as a very large soundstage - lots of width and height. Incredible. It's very "big" sounding.

It presents the music in a dazzling way that seems to have a lot of motion and energy, but yet remains cohesive. Great micro-detail and nuance. Low noise floor. Lots of power on tap.

@F1nut this thing performs well above it's price!

I'm in-between formal reviews right now, so I've been using this time to log some hours with the PM-14S1 powering my PMC twenty.22 speakers. Digital source is Qobuz & Tidal via the Lumin U1 Mini, connected with a Pangea Premier SE digital coax cable to the PM-KI Ruby DAC.

Simply put, the Marantz and PMC combo is a synergistic pairing. As with the last pair of speakers speakers I tried with it, I'm able to hear nice layering, 3D imaging, and good dynamics. The amp seems to take the edge off the PMC's treble, every so slightly. It's very subtle, but it's taming the tweeters just a smidgen and it suits them very well. There's still tons of air and detail up top, but there's nothing overly hot or harsh, at least with most recordings.

I've always considered the PMCs to be at little bass-shy, so I've been utilizing the by-passable tone controls to address this. I set the bass knob at +3 and it provides just a little boost to the low frequencies, to make them sound more balanced with the highs. Go further on the bass knob and it can get a little unbalanced, so I think +3 strikes a good balance of low end fill without it being obvious that tone controls are being used. Strangely, I've only felt the need to use the tone controls for digital sources. Analog just doesn't seem to require it.

The speed, dynamics, and tonality of the PMCs are allowed to really shine with this amplifier. Every musical element in a song is easily discernible if you focus on it, but the presentation and composition as a whole never gets lost. That's where I feel like the musicality of this amplifier is showcased. Earlier I described this trait as "having a lot of motion and energy, but remaining cohesive". I was pleased to see this characteristic is also retained with the PMC speakers.

I've also been trying out the phono stage with my modest Technics 1200mk2 and Ortofon OM-30 setup. It lives up to the hype that you always hear about Marantz's integrated phono preamps. The most notable characteristic is the subtle sonic nuances and the long decay on fading sounds. Everything just sounds super polished and pristine, without it sounding cloudy or euphoric. I think there's some slight coloration with how it's been voiced, but in practice it works well and still sounds accurate and faithful to the source material. Overall, an impressive phono stage for being a built-in one, definitely not an afterthought. Clearly Ken Ishiwata had a hand in it's design and implementation.

In summary, the PM-14S1 continues to impress me, as I'm sure it will with every speaker I try it with. I highly recommend snagging one of these on the used market if you come across one in nice condition.

It's a relatively low cost of entry in order to experience increased height, width, and depth to your favorite music. It's detailed without being analytical, it has great rhythmic flow, and the build quality is exceptional. There's also plenty of power on tap, I had the volume at -30db the other day and it was pretty much at "the neighbors will be calling the cops soon" levels. Very versatile piece that should pair up well with any speaker.

I said "speakers speakers" and "PM-KI Ruby" instead of "SA-KI Ruby".

    UGH.
