I've never been inspired to check out new music by looking at album covers.
That used to be the case with me as well.....right up until I got a music server with Tidal. I'll peruse this thread looking for something new to listen too while I work and if something strikes my fancy, I'll order the album on the best format I can get if I really like it.
I find that it saves me a lot of money, even though it costs me a lot of money. I no longer buy albums that are recommended but contain musical selections you would have to pay me to listen too. At the same time, my world of musical discovery has exploded exponentially because of looking at some of what others are listening too, and hearing similar types of music based upon that selection.
When I see something I don't have, I can now instantaneously play it on the computer or stream it to the main rig if I really like what I hear on the computer. This thread has cost me plenty of money....even if most of it is just pic's.
Shoot, without Tidal, I would have never heard or bought Yosi Horikawa's Vapor CD. But, Jerry told me to check it out because he ran across it on Tidal checking out another album along the same genre of music. I put it up on the main rig and within 10 minutes, I was online ordering the album.

One of my favorites. Well recorded, and if I remember correctly there’s a video on the recording out there in one of the diaries of Knopfler’s keyboard player. I’ll try to look it up. Knopfler totally rebuilt some vintage Ampex tape machines and uses vintage tube microphones, etc. -
Ah, I did not know that. I will have to look and find that video. Too cool, but Mark is just like that. He is one of the few artists that go through extreme lengths to pick the best musicians within their respective fields and the best recording techniques.
Wasn't he one of the ones (or the first one) to go all DDD on their CD? IIRC, it was the Brothers in Arms album. - NOPE, I checked - From Wikipedia - September 5, 1982: Peter Gabriel releases his fourth studio album (titled Security in North America and Peter Gabriel IV elsewhere). When released on CD in October 1984 it becomes the first full-digital DDD release.
Further Wikipedia notes - Brothers in Arms was one of the first albums recorded on a Sony 24-track digital tape machine. The decision to move to digital recording came from Knopfler's constant striving for better sound quality. "One of the things that I totally respected about him," Dorfsman observed, "was his interest in technology as a means of improving his music. He was always willing to spend on high-quality equipment."
What amazes me is that, in the era or ear piercing CD's? Mark was able to co-produce and album that even today, sounds incredible and is a FAR cry from the earlier CD's released to the American market. This is one album I must have 7 or 8 copies of in all sorts of different formats. Possibly more.

Tom, google Guy Fletcher recording studio diaries. The analog tape machines Mark rebuilt were Studer not Ampex it appears. Extremely interesting diaries. Guy does diaries for every tour as well. He’s been with Mark for decades. Mark is incredible you will not regret reading these diaries. Don

One of my favorites!
I seen Mountain open for Triumph during their Thunder Seven tour. Leslie West and the drummer got into a knock down drag out fight about the 5th song in. At first we thought it was just part of the show but then we realized when the drummer started beating him with cymbal stands and sticks and Leslie picked up his guitar and started beating the drummer back that it was no longer just to show it was a knockout drag-out fight pretty soon everybody was on stage pulling these two apart it was quite the show. Needless to say we got more triumph that night so it worked out better since I had 9th row center stage seats. To this day I have no idea what started the fight.
