CD (5 Disc) Carousel Changer

Looking for a CD Changer for my dad. His went Kaputz a year or two ago. I was going to get him one last year for Christmas, but the new options were limited, and crazy expensive for junk players since there's basically zero demand for them. Instead, I got him and my mother set up with a Spotify membership and showed them how to connect their tablet or phone to their stereo. Well, they don't take advantage of that, and again he mentioned he wished he had a working CD player.

Does anyone have something that's in presentable (gift-worthy) condition, that they'd be willing to part with? He's no audiophile, so it doesn't need to be anything TOTL. Something with an original remote is preferred. If you have an original box, that would be a huge bonus!

Looking to spend around $75 give or take shipped to me (16823).

What have you got?

I got this one from Rick that I never used. Let me see if I can find the remote.

You can have it and maybe cover shipping.

Hopefully you can snag a decent one. I still have my Sony from HS and it's running strong. Seems like the model I had either lasted 2 months, or 20 years.
I'm sure it's a ticking time bomb at this point, but I'll probably run it into the ground. It doesn't see a ton of action these days, and will likely be seeing less in the near future (upgrading) so who knows, it might have another decade left in it.

Bob - That's a very generous offer. I'd gladly buy it from you and pay shipping. Let me google the model and see what it is.

Dave - Thanks for the link. There are options!

I also found this one on CL not too far from me...

My pleasure Al. I do have a BNIB Sony 100 Disc changer, but after I thought about it that may put Dad off a bit, as compared to the easier to use 5-disc carousel.

Hey Al there are a bunch of these on fleabay:

I owned one, and if I needed a another spinner on a budget I would grab this one again. Actually sounds pretty dang good considering! And highly and easily mod-able for when your dad dives into the rabbit hole lol!

I caution against a DVD/CD changer. The ones I've used have been very slow to recognize the disc type. Especially annoying when using the shuffle mode.

I have a couple of them from my dad's collection. Free to you, except for shipping.
Either a black Yamaha DVD-C750, or a silver Yamaha DV-C6760. Both have remotes, but no original packaging.

Man, that's what I love about this forum... reach out for help, and within minutes you have several who are willing to bend over backwards to help.

Jody, again very generous offer! I know Rick was looking as well, and you offered them to him. I would want to be 100% sure he didn't want them before considering!

Paul - that Sony looks like a tank, but a little over budget.

Dave (DaveHo), so it appears all except the two players on eBay that Paul and Dave (verb) recommended are DVD/CD. I definitely want to keep it simple for my Dad and avoid any lagging when reading discs. He likes to put 5 discs in and shuffle them. It would be only for music, so a video player is not needed.

I have a basic Yamaha CD changer (don't know the model off the top of my head) that I'm using now. It's in like new condition too. I could always just give him that one once I find myself a better single disc player... I'd hate to be without one.

So, another option would be if anyone had a single disc CDP that's a nice upgrade for me, I'd entertain buying. I just don't want to be without something for the occasional CD listening in my 2-channel.

I believe that I have a matching Yamaha 5 disc changer and Yamaha AVR in storage, but I’d have to go check, in case I already gave them to the Sheriff’s fundraiser yard sale... 🤔

They are in like new condition IIRC, and I’m about 99% sure that I have the remotes. Because they match, the AVR remote controls some of the CDP functions, which might be handy. I might also have the manual. The original boxes were badly damaged in a Georgetown basement flood that wasn’t noticed immediately, so those are not around.

If interested, you can have both AVR and CDP for free, just pay actual shipping (but I’ll still have to check the storage locker before I’ll know if I gave them away or not).

Made a quick visit to the storage locker...

I do have the CD Changer. The model is CDC-655.
I also have the stereo receiver (with tuner and antenna). Model RX-395, with A+B stereo speaker outputs (6Ω minimum for stereo).

IIRC, one of the interesting features of this model was the “Xchange” capability: you could play one disc while exchanging the others. Everything was in full working order before storage, the disc tray and shuffle mechanism were flawless.

I’ll take more pics, check for the remotes and manuals, and fire up a functionality test if you want me to pursue further.

I’m truly humbled by the generosity and how much folks go above and beyond on this forum to help each other. Proud to be a part of this family of audio enthusiasts!

No worries at all and no hurry! Thanks again for doing this. It’ll be great to get my dad a functioning CD player again.

It's been a whirlwind of a few days, but I wanted to update and give a big thanks to @Kex for this generous 'karma'. The Yamaha CD changer traveled via UPS from Cali to PA and arrived (last Thursday) in tip-top shape. Even the box was unscathed!

The player looks absolutely fantastic (I believe the forum-approved term is 'minty'). It looks brand new with a perfect remote and original owner's manual that looks like it's never been touched! This was so much more than what I expected (not that I expected something bad).

My only complaint with Kris is that he refused to let me send him anything to cover shipping... >:) Otherwise, he was fantastic throughout the adventure.

In the interest of paying it forward, I'd like to karma something in the future (after the holiday craziness settles down). I'd also like to make a donation (on behalf of Kex) to @helipilotdoug (Doug's) son. Doug, if you or any other members have a quick link to the go-fund-me site that was set up (if still active), please send it to me. I couldn't find it, but was searching from my phone.

Thanks to everyone who offered to help. I'll be sure to post how it works for my parents after the holidays!

    Merry Christmas,
    -Al
