What happened to Derek (DSkip)?

It won't be the same without him. I don't understand his reasons but I respect them.
-
I'm sorry to see Derek leave. I hope he will reconsider. My PM's with him still have his comments, so maybe there's hope all his valuable contributions to the forum are not lost forever.
-
This is another sizeable loss for this community. Sad.

Dave, you still have PMs you exchanged with him? Odd. I had a few PMs to him over the years, but ALL are gone now - which stinks because he had given me a lot of good information and it's now gone. I do have his contact info so I can reach out to him outside the forum again if need be. It just sucks that MY messages were deleted too! -
I can see a few PM's but most are gone. Too bad since they had good information regarding upgrading etc.
-
I have a pm that I started with him that is still there. I bet it has to do with which person started the pm. Like when nbrowser had his posts deleted. Any threads started by him vanished, even when others participated in them. That's just a guess.
-
@Hermitism that makes sense.
-
Maybe that's the difference. All the PM's were started by me.

Most forums are, ultimately, somebody else's sandbox. If we pee in their sandbox, we are likely to get booted...or disciplined in some way as in this case. We like to think free speech rules in these forums (vanilla speech, at least), but as we see, there are limits.
I'm sorry that Skip chose such an extreme option, especially if he was given alternatives. We lost a lot of archival knowledge and valued opinion.
Have any of you guys been on AH, or EMO forum? them dude’s will surely jump ya.
-
Sorry guys, been a busy morning. He reached out to us and asked that we delete his account along with all his posts. I asked if he was 100% sure, since we cannot recover his posts once we've deleted them, he replied with yes.
I can certainly unban him if he ever changes his mind but this was 100% his decision. Not sure why. -
Really, so Polk had no issue with him?
-
We politely asked him to not promote other speaker brands on the forum anymore. AVRs were fine.
Obviously we cannot show the full conversation since all of his posts were deleted but below is the email reply from him we can reference.
-
That's odd, I wouldn't have quit just because of that, but then again I usually don't know when to quit. Thank you Cassidy for responding, most of these folks just ignore me.
-
Thank you @CassidyStains for the clarification. It is a shame that all his posts are gone. Lots of good stuff in there.
Derek if you happen to read this I wish you well my friend. And hope you come back!

So if I like a speaker besides polk I can't mention it here ?
Are you selling them as a dealer?
Totally different coming from a dealer with a monetary interest.
It’s too bad he chose to go this direction and blow what seems to be a simple and understandable request way out of proportion. -

Well said, Lot’s of people use forum’s for personal gain. Not just Polk, go over on EMO or AH, or AVS most of the older members are dealers.
-
Here's an idea, let's all just respectfully accept Skip's decision without casting judgement or speculating on his motives and intent.
-
I never once felt like Derek was actively pushing his speaker line. Some mentions sure, but never to the point that it took anything away from Polk.
Does anyone here think Derek was actually doing that?
Heck there have been a few here on CP that all they do is post in the FS thread.Basement: Polk SDA SRS 1.2tl's, Cary SLP-05 Pre with ultimate upgrade,McIntosh MCD301 CD/SACD player, Northstar Designs Excelsio DAC, Cambridge 851N streamer, McIntosh MC300 Amp, Silnote Morpheus Ref2, Series2 Digital Cables, Silnote Morpheus Ref2 Series2 XLR's, Furman 15PFi Power Conditioner, Pangea Power Cables, MIT Shotgun S3 IC's, MIT Shotgun S1 Bi-Wire speaker cables

Dang..just seeing this. Skip brought all kinds of coolness to this place and even though he was not an Auralic dealer at the time I made my choice to get my Player..it was his positive words about how great the company is while he was a dealer that kept my interest peaked when it came time to rock. He said nothing but good things to me and always tried to help. He will be missed here."if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

There is nothing wrong with deleting a user’s account upon request. However, there is absolutely no reason to remove their posts. Just because they request it is irrelevant.

I'm sorry, but while I respect whatever his reasons for leaving are, I don't believe all of his posts should have been deleted. It's a loss for the entire forum, and not really fair to the rest of us.
In my opinion, Polk should have a disclaimer when you sign up, basically saying that you are free to post here, but that all posts become property of Polk Audio, and as such, are not subject to deletion unless THEY see fit to do so. My .02So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Sorry to see Skip leave. He was a major contributor here. I wish him the very best, I hope he decides to return. I agree that losing his and other's advice is huge.
I would think there should be a way to just remove his "posts", but leave all the remaining "posts" by others in HIS "started threads" (discussions) intact.
Once others add to a thread with advice, those threads should become part of the "whole"! Many members take large amounts of their time and effort to write very lengthy, valuable commentary that is now LOST. Or can it be recovered?
Once a DSkip thread, or anyone's, has been commented on by others, it should NOT be able to be deleted to the detriment of the others that contributed, sometimes greatly, within that thread!
-
I think it's safe to say that we all agree on that. No deletion of posts, unless Polk decides said post's fate.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Deleting of all of one's posts, especially of this magnitude is the ultimate kamikaze move.
A great wealth of discussion lost to the ether. -
Wow sorry to hear this, I cant recall a time Skip promoted his speaker line not (new) ones in a thread maybe I'm wrong but cant recall any. Sure demos and used ones yes just like many others do. Myself and a lot of other people have bought items from Skip before as a way to show appreciation to a fellow member that belongs to what I thought was a tight knit community. I wish Skip all the best and hope to visit the Audio Thesis room at Apoxona this year. Continued success is what I wish for Audio Thesis.Home Theater
