There's a open to the public B737 NG flight sim in the Illinois area that I plan to take my Son to one day. He wants to be a pilot and has been waiting to get enlisted into the Air Force. However, since he hasn't gotten the call after waiting all Summer he may go to college first instead.

Oh of course, nothing has changed... Everyone knows that you have to have a degree and be an officer to fly. What actually keeps changing is the rising cost of college. $$$Unless the military has changed, you need to be an officer to fly, and you need to be a college graduate to be an officer.
Therefore, many are getting enlisted to active duty right out of H.S. and going to college at the same time. This allows one to use the Tuition Assistance program and the GI Bill to pay for school.
