I remember him wanting to stop the spending waste that our Gov. was doing, and has done forever.

    Him and his 'CHARTS". ;)

He didn't get too far. But he tried and I have always remembered him for that.

    R.I.P. Mr. Perot.

R.I.P. He also spent his own money on the presidential campaign. You have to wonder how well he would have done if he had never dropped out of the 1992 campaign.

I don't want to get political, but winning the election was not his goal. His intent was to deny Bush the 1st a second term.

In his autobiography, Ross Perot: My Life & the Principles for Success, Perot reflected on getting several pairs of shoes and a dozen sets of underwear after being sworn into the academy on his 19th birthday.

He had never had more than one pair of shoes and three or four sets of underwear at a time in his life.

"This was possibly my first example of government waste," he wrote.

Anecdote: I worked in the IT department at Lockheed-GA Company in the early 70's. EDS was hiring. Several colleagues of mine interviewed with EDS. The interview process was not a normal interview as we think of today.

Initially, an interview took place in the person's home, in order to meet the family. (Stability?)

The colleague later learned that at followup dinner interviews in restaurants, the EDS people observed behavior such as potential employees salting their food before tasting. (Decision Making?)

We knew this was going to happen as far back as the 70s, yet nobody did anything to adapt or re train our job force. On top of it, we issue thousands of work visas every year to bring in workers who do have tech skills because of a shortage of these skills in our own labor force. Makes perfect sense to me.

Most of my coworkers from a previous company were former EDS Software Engineers working on VA accounts. I heard countless stories from their EDS days before it was sold to HP. Absolutely fantastic.

Business and government leadership generally does not care about adapting and retraining our work force because they are focused on making a quick buck for themselves and their inner circles. Their minds don't extend any farther than this quarter's results or financing the next political campaign. Other countries think in terms of long-term generational business and political goals.

….and how has that worked out for those "other countries" ? Pro's and cons to both applications.

Personally, I don't think retraining a workforce is the governments duty anyway. If businesses need to , they can do it themselves with better results.
