On top of it, we issue thousands of work visas every year to bring in workers who do have tech skills because of a shortage of these skills in our own labor force. Makes perfect sense to me.
Business and government leadership generally does not care about adapting and retraining our work force because they are focused on making a quick buck for themselves and their inner circles. Their minds don't extend any farther than this quarter's results or financing the next political campaign. Other countries think in terms of long-term generational business and political goals.
….and how has that worked out for those "other countries" ? Pro's and cons to both applications.
Personally, I don't think retraining a workforce is the governments duty anyway. If businesses need to , they can do it themselves with better results.
Appears to be working well in the Pacific Rim. -

They don't have much choice in the pacific rim Kerry, they do what they are told, when they are told. Plus they use child labor for much of the manufacturing processes. Are we suppose to mirror that ? Don't think it would sit well with many here. Plus they are better at keeping out competition.
Difference being....the Pacific rim unites business and government as one. Business is there to support the government first and foremost. Here we value other things first and foremost while taxing a percentage to run our governments. Different ideologies between them and us, pro's and cons to each. Freedoms is not one of the things they value though.
I would imagine if their way was that much better than ours, people would be flocking to get there for a piece of the pie. Don't see that happening. I do see people flocking to get here though.HT SYSTEM-

By incentives you mean money, and that money comes from our pockets. Let each industry train their own, it is not beholden for the general population to pay for an industries training. Once you open that can of worms, you have to do it for everyone or your picking and choosing the winners and losers. Do we want governments to have that power ? They do in the Pacific Rim countries.
You can't tell me they/corporations don't have the money either to do it. The country on the other hand, is broke as can be.HT SYSTEM-
