Maybe Evil Knievel’s Snake River jump. But that didn’t make it either.

    Of course it did.

But the movies use a whole team of people to scientifically and precisely calculate the effect of gravity, the amount of lead distance, speed, lift, and thrust required for the vehicle weight to successfully cross the gap. Then there is the very low weight body and chassis design, a custom designed powerful engine, a custom designed suspension so that the car doesn't crash when it lands, and....a highly trained stunt driver. Not to mention the trick camera angles and doctored images that make it look like the car jumped longer and higher than it actually did.

Even with all that, something can still go wrong and a tragedy can occur.

This is the car in question. I don't think Batman's Batmobile could have made that jump, much less this flea powered economy car.

The bridge in this case rotated and did not raise, so there wasn't even a takeoff ramp to hit.

Let's see. A 165 foot section of the bridge is movable to allow boat passage. It appears that the "swing up" sections of the draw bridge on both sides of the gap are about 50 feet long and raised at an angle of 30 degrees. This would give a gap span of around 182 feet, which is about 12 times the 15 foot length of the car. It's doubtful that Batman's Batmobile could have made that jump. Gravity had a long time to work on that 1.5 tons of car and its occupants.

Evel's longest successful motorcycle jump was 133 feet over 14 Greyhound buses at Kings Island amusement park in Ohio, October 15, 1975.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Evel_Knievel_career_jumps

Maybe they thought they could get a reality show after a successful jump. A successful jump here would have beat Knievel's best by over 50 feet.

This is a perfect example of children not getting enough outside activity. It was a right of passage to build a ramp, get airborne on you bike, and either wreck on landing or have the ramp break while attempting to get airborne.

If you were a boy, and didn’t accomplish this task by age 7, at the latest, you we’re ridiculed to no end. Sure a broken bone would occasionally happen, and occasionally that slow learner would have to try it a second time, which was even worse, but pain does have a way of conquering stupid.

    There's stupid and then there's miss-calculation. :D

Evil Knievel had miscalculation on that snake river jump....whoops, I'm sorry. He pulled the parachute lever from the G-force on take-off I think they said. :#

Too bad there wasn't a camera in the car to record their 'Oh s h l t' moment when they went a few feet, and realized they were going down, not over.
