@verb here's a Luxman deck I have. It is, I believe, from the Alpine/Luxman ownership era. Not a high-end item that one normally considers the Luxman name to represent. The top deck is a Pioneer very similar to the one you recently acquired. Both work well, but are stored with other black-faced gear of the past. Both were purchase from either garage sales or thrift's.

Nice! I have a luxman tuner/pre combo from the same era.

The Pioneer looks good. A few notches up from my 550 that I just acquired for a pittance.

You gotta hook em up!

where do you see pre-recorded tapes anymore? Goodwill, I’ve even found Garrison Keelor joke tapes there and a plethora of music tapes, it’s all good!

I haven't been to Goodwill in a long time but I didn't see many tapes get put out in them when I was frequenting them 3 times a week. One store seemed to have about 50 and they stayed there for years too. I bought one or two from that display but the rest were not worthy... :s

I think people thru them away when CDs were invented. I'm sure people thought the tape era was over for good. I certainly did. I don't think I thru my tapes away though.

Heck, I still have VHS unopened movie tapes hoarded up here. :s:'(
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Kept a deck around since I couldn't will myself to pitch the cassettes - a ton of pleasant memories in those things. Don't think I would have any problem taking the terrible sounding pre-recorded ones to Goodwill (do they even accept these?). Should probably just man up and throw it all out.

Famous Luxman quality. Push buttons are all soft touch, rotary dials are solid and velvety smooth, quiet operation. LED's are bright. And sounds great! Heads and capstan look clean, but will give em a good cleaning and de-mag later tonight.

Initial impression is that this sounds better than the Pioneer, but will eventually do some A/B comparisons.

For 40 bucks, can't go wrong! Apart from some patina (scratches) on the master volume knob, this thing is minty!

BB King/Eric Claptan rocking right now! Courtesy of @mhardy6647!

I just noticed on these dual decks, Tape A on both decks has Dolby B/C only, Tape B has Dolby B/C & HX Pro. So it looks like recordings needing HXPro (headroom extension) processing would need to be recorded in the B wells. I never noticed that before.
