R2R w/ DBX 224

Picked up a Revox R2R couple months back and found an old tape but was DBX encoded so splurged further and picked up a DBX 224 from the -bay.

Recapped, new Cree Schottkey diodes and Burson op amps put in. Much cleaner and faster.

Kewl! IIRC DBX had some impressive high S/N numbers. DBX was 2:1 compression with high and low pass filters. Complex stuff for me....

Next up... dbx vinyl. I’ve snagged a couple of albums to sample from.

Difficult part is getting all this stuff close enough to wire it up.

I had a cassette deck that had DBX noise reduction and man did it cook a great tape. Unfortunately you couldn't play that tape on any other deck because it would sound like fecal matter big-time. Very cool Aaron.

It reminds me of SSB, single-side band. I built a short wave receiver that could tune SSB a longggggg time ago...my first Heatkit. SSB sounds muffled, garbled and distorted on a standard radio.

Could be Rich. There was I think only Pioneer that used it. I could be wrong its been known to happen ;)
I just do not remember running into any other decks that used it. Everything thing else used dolby b,c,s and hxpro
