Breville USA

I have and have enjoyed my Breville coffee grinder maker for almost 3 years now. Recently i noticed that when I made a pot of coffee, sometimes a very little bit of clear hot water is dripping down the side of the pot and into the drip tray. After careful inspection I determined that the lid on the brew basket is not closing all the way and decided I would just order the ($20) replacement part from their website.

When I went to order the part I found it to be out of stock and decided to contact customer service to get an eta. I explained that my whole kitchen has Breville stuff, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven and a very awesome waffle maker. The very polite (English speaking) customer service person was as perplexed as I was that the part was not available and told me he would escalate my case to Breville management.

I just received a message from Breville Customer Service that they are sending me a new unit (actually a new model) to replace my unit at no charge ($300 value). App 2 years out of warranty and they are going to replace it free of charge.... Now THAT is standing behind your products! WOW...

So Mikey the Mrs remarked the other day that she hates our coffee maker. We have a Bona Vita, which makes great coffee, but the filter cup sits directly on top of the carafe, which according to her is a PITA (I never make coffee at home  ), as you have to dispose of the grind before you can pour the coffee!
    Bona Vita:
    6g2i10ztum8v.png

Time to upgrade. Thinking about a Breville. We're not coffee grinders, but this model does indeed have that "drip stop" feature that allows the filter cup to remain in place after the coffee is brewed.

Anyone have experience with this unit? Model: BDC455BSS1BUS1

I’m sorry Verb but I have to razz you for two things. First, I have the same coffee maker as your current one and love it. The coffee maker sits at the bar next to the bar sink, and we just set the filter in the sink. Or walk five feet to the trash can :p. So I just don’t understand the complaint. But second, do you at least know how to make coffee??? Does ur wife cut ur steak for u too??? :D

Okay razzing over. I have no experience with said coffee maker sorry...

What coffee maker won't let you pour coffee with the grinds still in the basket ? Just wait until it cools a bit after brewing and dump right in the garbage. Rocket science it isn't. :)

It is a pour over style instead of drip. It makes MUCH better coffee, but yes, the filter basket sits on the carafe, and if you remove it immediately after it finishes it will drip (that’s what she said). I just set mine in the sink, but if the sink isn’t close it could be a problem. Thus the paper towel suggestion...

Gotcha, if it isn't by the sink, just put a small plate next to it to place the grinds on.

With the Bona Vita, I just set the basket on top of an empty coffee cup and toss the filter later. I still have one with the insulated carafe but don't use it much since I switched to a larger capacity and cheaper Cuisinart model with a glass carafe and warming plate. The Bona Vita does make slightly better coffee though. They do make a model with a glass carafe and warming plate.

If I was going to spend the kind of money it takes to buy a Breville coffee maker, I'd probably stretch a bit and go with a Technivorm model in red metallic...

Sorry but espresso is by far a better coffee than any alternative. Americano dbl or quad in the morning cannot be bested. Cold brew, French press, percolator etc. nothing competes. IMHO ;)

Love my espresso too, but a good drip maker is also a necessity. I can't see spending 300+ on a drip maker that doesn't even have a 12 cup capacity, 14 is better for me. :) No timer, or other programing abilities.

Bunn used to make a good dripper, but even they have gone down the cheap crap way now. Kitchen-aid too.

I don't mind spending 100 bucks on a dripper if they are going to be throw aways after a few years. 300+ though, I dunno man. Used to be even consumer grade drippers would last 6,7,8 years, now to get 2 years out of them your lucky.

I use an old fashioned percolator. Not sexy, but to me tastes great.

Purchased on Ebay NOS never been used, 1970's Sunbeam. Never used anything but a percolator pretty much all my life. Before this one dies, I will source another NOS unit.

2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Man, I got tired of all the electric deals breaking and getting no help from manufacturers so I went back to one of these:

You must have bad luck tony, this one lasted at least 8 years: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/cuisinart-reg-10-cup-programmable-thermal-coffee-maker/1015087161?keyword=coffee-maker-cuisinart-steel

I finally got rid of it because I had failed to regularly clean it and the water tank got pretty nasty. I cleaned it like ten times and couldn't get it done so I bought the new one.

Yea, the Bona Vita is only 8 cup, but since its a pour over style is brews in about five minutes and it makes it hot! If you can't wait 5 minutes after drinking 8 cups (or even 4 after splitting with the wifey) then you have a problem... ;)

I have a Technivorm, an older model than the red one above, and it’s going strong after at least 12 years. On weekends, I do wish it had 12-cup capacity though. I have a Baratza grinder and that is another company with exemplary customer service. I’d like to get an espresso machine at some point. Any recommendations, either fully manual or automatic?

Jura super automatics, expensive, but make great espresso. They also take some maintenance every so often to keep them up to snuff, but all of them do.
