Music Modernization Act

I have not yet absorbed all the details of this, but the premise appears to be to help artists, songwriters, producers, and others involved in music creation get paid in the streaming era. That sounds all well and good, but I wonder what will be the consequences, both intended and unintended.

Probably covered by some existing law that already exists, but once again it doesn’t mean what it says.

It’s called “copyright,” and it’s enshrined in the constitution. Further questions?

Or to the creators of music that we all *purport* to love. But why pay for what you can get for free, right?

And we already have copyright laws that cover these things... why do we need a new law rather than enforce what is already on the books?

Same reason we have more firearm control laws that existing laws already cover: keeps "law makers" employed and gives them something to squabble about.

Wow...I dunno, because the internet and RECORDED MUSIC didn’t exist when the constitution was written. So we have to make laws that bridge the gap between constitutional law and modern reality lol...

And, because everytime a law is enacted there is a lawyer, or team of lawyers, trying to find ways around it.

So is the right to privacy. How's that working out for us today ? They will always find ways around it. That's why some wish it to be constantly reinterpreted for the times.
