Rotel RB-1090 amplifier opinions.

Looking for any current Rotel amp owners who have had the 1090.

The RB1090 is one killer amp. You trying to buy one or talk about yours?

    Want to buy one.
  • We had that amp for years. It’s big, warm and dynamic. It sounded more “right” than a few expensive audiophile amps we tried to upgrade it with. In the end, a pair of Odyssey monoblocks (at greater cost) provided more audiophile goodies in the transparency department. But we still fondly remember the 1090.

Not current, but I had one paired with some SDA SRS 2's. Great amp. Matter of fact I think I got it from Emlyn. The wheels on the back help sliding it in the rack.

Interesting and telling fact is that Rotel dumped Class AB amps for a few years in favor of their Class D experiment, but then went back to their traditional thing. The current RB-1590 is pretty much the same as the old RB-1090 design with updated cosmetics.

I tried some Class D mono blocks, then Ed Savinon the SRT king brought over the Krell KSA-250, Class A. No contest, the Krell stayed.

IIRC, I almost bought Emlyn’s years ago.

I had a 1090, it was good until I got the Plinius SA102.
