As mentioned earlier, lawnmower beer goes down inside of 5 seconds. A glass of Pinot (Noir only) about 15 minutes. A neat-ish (1 cube) Scoth or Bourbon about 45 minutes. Latter pretty much reserved for Thursday nights when my wife watches Gray’s Anatomy and I retire to the 2 channel room for 85-88 dB of sonic splendor.

I like a bit of rum, neat, sipped. Don't mind the sweet Pirate, and I like a balanced sipper too - What be your thoughts?

@MrBuhl Zacapa is strictly sipping. If I saw anyone trying to mix it, I would confiscate their bottle and give them a stern warning. The first time. It would get too real if they did it again. It's the law ya know!

LOL amen! Zacapa is solid enjoyment. We were on a cruise a couple years ago, I got the drink package and determined the best way to make that up was quality vs. volume. Drank my way up rums till the bartender said, uh-uh - that one I'll pour for you, but not in a drink. Zacapa!

There is a brand of rum bottled in Barbados called Cockspur...arguably the smoothest rum on the planet..Try it and I think you will agree...

I only drink for medicinal purposes so I limit myself to 2 drinks a night. Each has 4 oz of my home made 100 proof vodka. The first one goes down pretty fast.

Tequila is my liquor of choice. First margarita goes down fairly fast, then a second, or maybe straight to sipping then. Once I get to sipping, things can escalate if I'm not careful.

I had a couple sips of red wine a month ago. Before that I had not had as much as a drop for 8 years or so. I got a slight headache right away and felt bad that I ruined my streak for nothing.

    Three words,,
    Single Malt Scotch

My grandfather (Who I had the most respect for growing up), once told me (among many other things, of course) that a man should develop a "taste" for scotch. He called it a "life skill", much like being able to hit a golf ball respectably - I know, times have changed much, but I digress.

So in my mid 20s, I purchase a bottle of Johnny Walker Red label, with the intention of developing this taste for Scotch. Try as I might, I couldn't get through half the bottle. Terrible stuff.

So a couple months later, back to the liquor store I go - this time for a $60 bottle of higher quality Scotch (Glenfiddich, IIRC), and again, I couldn't even get through half the bottle. Not as bad as the JW, but still not good.

So again, a couple months later, I'm standing in the liquor store, holding a $120 bottle of Scotch - I don't remember the brand, but it was in a fancy box, and was 18 years old. Then it hit me - what if I actually LIKE this one? Do I really want to sign up for a $120 a bottle indulgance (again, in my 20s, and not overly rich). So I put it back and left, having never developed a taste for Scotch...

A friend turned me onto Hornitos Black and I only drink my tequila straight now. I'm sure there are better tequilas, but maybe not at that price point.
