Hello Polkies,

I've resisted a long time but I would like to give vinyl a shot. I purchased a Project Tube Box DS phono and am looking for a viable turntable. I am thinking at the moment about grabbing a Debut Carbon DC which are available for 399 right now. Is there anything else in the sub 500 range I should be looking at? RP1 maybe? I don't want to go all in just yet as I want to make sure Vinyl sticks long term before I spend major money. Rig is listed below.

Thanks,
Zach

Hey Zach are you considering a good used TT? That is the route I took recently for exactly the same reasons. Picked up a Micro Seiki MB14 from CL, and I'm very happy with it.

What? C'mon, he's halfway there with the phono pre. :)

A good source for reasonably priced vinyl is a must. As far as making sure vinyl sticks long term, you mean for you, right? Cause some of us have been all in and ain't leaving ;)

I'm not sure how the genre/age of the music he listens to comes into play?

There's still some (becoming more and more) amount of new releases on vinyl, but, not like "back in the day" when EVERYTHING was released on vinyl.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, it would be prudent to look up your favorite artists/labels and see if they are actively releasing stuff.

I can't remember the last time I wanted to buy a new release and it wasn't offered in vinyl. Sure there was a dead period in the 90's and early 2000's, but a lot of those popular releases are being reissued.

New vinyl can bust your wallet though.

I had a '68 428CJ back in the day. Sadly not many pics of it remain. It was Red, Black stripes. Daytona 4 speed, Detroit locker. The good old days...

True that. I'm a sucker for the deluxe editions for bands I really like, too.

I have been noticing some good deals on Amazon though. $12-$15 for some good stuff.

I don’t know how long it will last, but for the last probably 5 years, basically all new releases have all been available on vinyl.

I have no problems finding new releases on Vinyl, seems like about the last 30 or so shows I have seen there was Vinyl available of that artists latest release. Then there's the local mom and pop shops that have, new and used vinyl that I wish I had the funds to add to my fairly large collection, vinyl is is easily available pretty much all over.

I listen to almost exclusively older music. Part of the reason I want to try vinyl is all the remastered genesis stuff sounds awful on cd, I hear genesis on vinyl is a must. Plus I just want to be cool like the rest of you :) the budget of 500 must be a turnkey turntable to answer your question Steve.

I find new releases hit or miss. I have access to tons of good, used vinyl from a local Facebook group with members that frequent L.A. estate sales. Most are as good or better than some of the newer albums I've bought.
