2.3tl mod - no turning back now!

Options
Well you fine folks convinced me to do it so I have begun. I have sealed the interior with loctite, installed hurricane nuts, alot of fun that is, power grabbed the MW's on the top and lower portion of the magnets and dynamatted the baskets on the MW's and PR.

The gaskets look good so no Armacell necessary.

All bolts are tight, did make a rookie mistake and over torque one of the bolts so it is history. I filled the hole with loctite and everything seems to be nice and tight. Next up in the next couple of days is cutting and installing Black Hole 5 sheets for the MW’s.

Lastly, is the crossover upgrade that nooshinjohn has been so gracious to rebuild for me. He is the best!

In the next couple of weeks I will button eveything back up and burn in and enjoy. And since I am a cableholic/horder/finatic I know I will have to upgrade the connections and IC with a dreadnought....eventually or I won’t be able to sleep! Also see about the tweeters but I want to see how the SL3000’s sound with a new XO.

Unbelievable info and resources on this site! I will send pix shortly...

Man am I jealous. You have room to do both at the same time (*and the cabinet is larger so you have more room to do the glue*)

Sounds like the tweeters are paramount in the upgrade.

I've got blistas on my fingas.....from 72 hurricane nuts.

Well I guess that can't be any worse than having to modify parts of the cabinet to accept Larry's rings............ :s

Re: the dreadnought, I built both the 800VA and the 1000Va versions with the Avel-Lindberg trannys and using enclosures from Larry. They both improve the SQ. The advantage of the smaller is that it's an off the shelf item and it's cheaper. The latter provides an audible (to me) upgrade in performance.

I sold the 800 after I built the 1000 and never looked back. I built a second dreadnought for some CRS+ speakers I modded which are used in a HT. Both the main rig and the HT are powered with common ground amps.

Wow, impressive you have 2 and one in your HT.

I think I will get to that, maybe there will be a group buy in the future. I use mono blocks but also like to drop a stereo Classe CG amp in from time to time. I have an AI-1 wrapped in tin foil currently. I have it hidden behind my speaker because I am starting to believe…maybe I am crazy….

Looks like a great start, you will be rewarded for all your efforts. I would suggest a pair of sturdy Saw Horses with some carpet or padding across the top bar.

MUCH easier on the knees and back when working on those big cabinets!

Looks awesome! FYI, and I made the same mistake, that dynamat tape is just that - tape. It's not dynamat! I bought the same stuff by mistake and still have the roll of aluminum tape! Something like this is the real dynamat stuff.
