For the record: the next big thing would have to be an ultraviolet-ray player (for higher information density) -- just sayin'.

Green-ray would be a step backwards.

Your gear only becomes obsolete if YOU consider it obsolete. If you just have the latest and greatest, then yes your gear will become obsolete.

I am only now starting to think of getting a Blu-ray player, the only reason for this is because I now have an updated tv thanks to Mark. If I still had my old tv, I wouldn't even be thinking about it.

When I do get one it will have to play all of my current media, because I will not be rebuying anything.

I will not allow marketing to dictate to me what I should have, or when I should have it.

No, McDonald's is the most popular for the same reason Budweiser is the king of beers. The vast majority of people like carp.
  • afterburnt
    afterburnt Posts: 7,892
Furthermore it appears that people like compression. What would an SACD be good for if you compress the carp out of the music?

Mrbigbluelight that's no a cat at all, it's an agent. Unfortunately you and I have run out of time. He's coming for you, and I don't know what he's going to do. I can guide you, but you must do exactly as I say.

If that was indeed the case, you'd still have a tubed tv set and VHS tapes along with cassettes. I do understand the dilemma though, as many others do too. You simply can't afford these days to be switching all your gear at the rate technology keeps changing.

Guilty as charged -- although we, sadly, have no operating all tube TV any more :(

I'd love to have an RCA CTC-16 chassis 21" round CRT color TV -- but that's another subject entirely.

I'm using 1950's Heathkit W-5 mono tube amps in my 2-channel rig, with tubes from before I was born. I'm offended in advance if anyone thinks that's obsolete.

2-channel is never obsolete, no matter how old. In Ht world though, sometimes your obsolete before you walk out the store.

But....we 2 channel weirdos are the niche market and the HT crowd is where they are making the money imho.

    Ludicrous.....
Do they sharpen their own nails for the needle?

    Kidding

To be honest and this is my own opinion
Some of the mono recordings I have heard that were then remastered to stereo sound so one sided. So in that case I'd take the mono. But I'm very glad they got this new fangled stereo stuff sorta figured out lol
