If its just a tweeter on the back side you're right. If its a woofer and a tweeter I am. Like I said, hard to tell strait on. -
Looks like the face is rectangular and the back is beveled. I tried googling some images of them but couldn't tell for sure if both models you mentioned above are like that.
-
Yes both models are the same shape. They just have have different drivers on the other side. If your interested in them have the seller send you a pic of the other side and there will be no doubt as to which they are.

For all of you SDA aficionados...
Don't know if this is a good deal or not. They've been on the local CL for a couple months now, and I believe the seller's asking price has dropped from around $400 originally to $280 currently. They do look to be in very nice shape. No Affil...

Polk RT800i for only $100 and look to be in decent shape. I am pretty sure these were listed about a year ago and the owner told me he was leaving for the military. Boone is a pretty long drive for me or I would be getting my second set.

I could use a new set of cans. These appear to be offered at a good price. Can anyone here speak for the quality and sound of these Polk headphones? These are local for me. Thank you in advance. http://omaha.craigslist.org/ele/5089538428.html

Can't speak for the Buckles, but we have a couple pairs of the Hinges (basically the little brother to the buckle) - on ear version. I imagine the Buckles are somewhat comparable or better. We like them. Got them on a killer sale (brand new) from Cowboom for around $30 or $35. Definitely worth that or double. I also have a pair of the Ultrafocus 8000 that I got during one of Polk's F&F sales. I would think the Buckles would be similar to the UF 8000's but without the NC.
For 50 bucks, I'd go for it! That's 75% off Polk's regular price. I'd think you'd be able to pass them along and not lose your investment if they don't work for you. -

That OPPO 83 is actually 235 shipped... That's not a bad price at all. Much closer to Polkie pricing! -
Hey Skip - what exactly is the drive failure on the 83's that you're referring to? Just curious (couldn't find much via a quick google search). I bought one here (used) about a year ago, and it's been working flawlessly. Is it something I should watch out for? Any way to 'see it coming' and/or possibly prevent it? IIRC, I think I paid about the same price... maybe $5 or $10 less shipped.
-
Thanks for the info Skip - Will keep this in my back pocket should something happen to mine. I have heard nothing but great things about their CS!

Regardless of price, that 83's drive IS going to fail. You'd be much better seeking out a 93. $235 is more in line though.
Oppo has been graciously been fixing these for free (even those like mine that were out of warranty) and shipping them back via FedEx on their nickel.

It may be a cheaper way of getting an Oppo and their excellent CS - make a lower offer out of the drive concern.Erik Tracy wrote: »
I know. I mentioned that:The optical drive just fails to work. I've read of some units having it replaced 3x. You might be lucky and got a well-made one. The 83/83SE are the only two that had this issue AFAIK. Later models were redesigned and use a different drive.
If it does happen, Oppo has been excellent at fixing these at no cost to the users. Reach out to them and see what they can do if/when it fails. It's just a headache to be out of your BDP for a few weeks while they repair it.
I still wouldn't get it just for the headache of shipping/temp. loss of player/etc. If you already have one, its great customer support. If you don't, I don't know why you'd want to have to rely on that customer support.
Oppo is still issuing f/w fixes for the 83 and are always prompt, courteous and professional.
Good luck with that from say Pioneer, Samsung, Yamaha, etc as you navigate a painfully unresponsive CS morass of confusion & frustration.
