I don't think I've even seen B&M Beans in the store here in Kansas. just van camps & bush's or some no name beans.

going to smoke a couple pork butts if I get a long enough break in the rain. I seen where others have put a pan of Beans in the smoker to add some flavor to them.

since the bean discussion has morphed from beans to potato chips :-P
... may I just take this opportunity to put in a good word for good ol' Utz?

I haven't had 'em for a long, long time... but the ripple-cut BBQ Utz always worked for me...

on topic :-P Our recipe for "home made" baked beans has always been B&M, adulterated with carefully adjusted portions of -- various things... including ketchup, brown sugar, mustard (yellow or powdered mustard, if you're really into it), finely minced onions, and -- bacon. Top the baked beans with a few strips of top-quality bacon* before throwin' 'em in the oven. Bake 'til they're frighteningly hot through and through and just a little black around the edges... mmm...

    * Two exceptionally good bacon options (IMO, of course)

Pork or pork fat makes everything taste better. Beans are no different. After all....bacon anyone ?

Don't get me started on chips though. I'm up to my neck in aggravation over paying hefty prices for a half filled bag of chips.

I know the price I pay is based on weight, so when it says 0.5 ounces Its not going to be a lot, but when you buy a bag of chips from a vending machine and open it up to find 5 little bitty chips inside it does make me say WTF!

Those bags have been "dieting" for years and continue to lose 1/2-2 ounces a year in weight depending on what size bag we're talking about. Soon what used to be a 13-14 ounce bag will be filled with a snack sized portion (1-1 3/4 ounces).

On another note. How did we get from a Half gallon of ice cream to 1.25-1.5 quarts? And we seem to be moving toward a half gallon becoming a quarter gallon with a more curvaceous container?

Well although I agree that we shouldn't have to pay the same price for less, 1. its all about marketing of course. As the price of potatoes, milk, etc. rises they don't want to just shoot up the price of the package so they shrink the contents and raise just a little to trick the typical idiot American; and 2. its not like most Americans couldn't stand to eat less chips and ice cream, so maybe they're doing us a favor and helping to lower health-care costs

Doubt that....if you think corporate America gives a rats arse about your health, your sadly mistaken. Now if we are talking about your wallet, corporate America is all ears.

The shrinkage is product size is directly related to your dollar buying less. In order for it to look like your dollar is buying the same and for them not to raise prices, they have to shrink content. Phony marketing ? Manipulation ? Call it what you will, your dollar doesn't goes as far as it did just 5 years ago.

That's been the trend for decades though, coupled with stagnant wages and less good paying jobs, how do you think that equation works out in the end for the majority of folks ?

Is it wrong to rub your junk all over Speakers in a showroom....when nobody's looking of course ?
