Bizarre question of the week for those of you that eat Van Camps canned beans...

I always eat Bush beans but decided to try a can of the Van Camps hickory beans as they were on sale :) Opened up the can and right in the top middle was this ball of, well, something...looks like congealed beans and fat and other things...is this normal for Van Camps? Been eating Bush beans for years and have never run across of lump/ball of congealed something in the can....

Yes, many makers of beans put a piece of either pork fat or bacon in with the beans.

Always loved those Charles Chips, they were expensive ,but darn good. Use to buy the huge bag of Diller potato chips back in the day at Piggly Wiggly. Yep, heat those beans up and that glob of fat will flavor the heck out of the beans.

All you need to do now its add a couple tbs of brown sugar & molasses, a couple teaspoon of ketchup & yes mustard, mince up some onion and toss in along with some bacon on top and put in a small casserole dish and bake it at 350 for awhile and you got some Better beans :)

I like both for different reasons. I have never found the pork "fat" in Bush's but they do have a nice chunk of very meaty bacon in them. I like the Bold Bush's then I add in more BBQ and spice mmmmm good.

There were chips in the midatlantic in my yoot called Gibbles that were good... "Nibble with Gibbles" -- dunno if they're still around.

I haven't had 'em (or really any potato chips, for that matter) for quite a few years, but the Cape Cod chips are/were good.

We had Charles Chips when I was a kid -- I remember the truck coming... I think it was biweekly.
I liked the BBQ better than the plain (FWIW).
