One dumb question

I just picked up a pair of Polk fxi a4's to serve as rears in a 5.1 system. They'll be mounted flush on a rear wall about 3' behind our seating area. My question is are they supposed to be mounted with the woofers firing in towards the seating area or out firing towards the side walls?

    I liked the sound better when the woofers were facing me. Play around with both and see which sounds better.

    I set mine at ear level with the woofers pointed toward the end of each side of the couch. Left side points to left side of couch, right side to right side of couch.

    +1, my FXiA6's are labled L and R.

    I just recently had mine located on the back wall behind the seating area and returned them to the sides. I certainly prefer the acoustics that way.

    IMO, the surrounds seemed to overbearing from the rear and tend to blend more from the sides. Could just be my room.

    Idealy they are supose to be on the side walls slightly behind you and a few feet above ear level.

    Wouldn't that be if you had them set to dipole? I thought that the rule of thumb was dipole for side mounting and bipole if rear mounted.
